  • Patent number: 6244011
Abstract: A display framework collapsing from an inverted V-shaped display framework to a compact configuration includes rods, hubs, and a fastening mechanism. Each rod pivotally joins to another rod by a scissors-type connection intermediate the rod ends. In addition, the end portion of each rod pivotally joins to a hub, where each hub may receive a plurality of rods. As configured, each rod enjoys pivotal movement in relation to the hub along a single axis of revolution. The rods rotate about this single axis of revolution from the collapsed compact configuration, where the rods are substantially parallel to one another, to the erect inverted V-shaped configuration, where the rods radiate outwardly from one another and the display framework includes a front face, a rear face, and a top. In this erect configuration, the display framework provides display surfaces on both the front and rear faces.

  • Patent number: 6227753
Abstract: An apparatus for a pop-up display structure that provides a hub structure that is divided into two sections that are held together by a thumbscrew. The two sections define internal channels in the hub for capturing guide pins attached to the tubes such that the tubes pivot about the guide pins and rotate about the hub through slots in the hub. The thumbscrew provides for removal of tubes from the hub structure without the use of tools and therefore provides for changes on the fly for reconfiguring the structure or for replacing broken tubes. The thumbscrew also provides a mounting structure for the channel bar that attaches to the pop-up structure. The channel bar is capable of folding into three sections and is capable of folding compactly without regard to the sequence of the folds.

  • Patent number: 5857293
Abstract: A method of casting concrete structures using a "flexible formwork assembly". The assembly has flexible sheets suspended from a fixed location, preferably from a supporting frame assembled on top of the reinforcing members, with rigid stress distribution members located to the outer surface of flexible sheets in predetermined spacings so as to carry load directly and to redistribute stress in the sheet so as to aid the sheet to withstand the concrete pressure. The majority of stress distribution members are arranged in pairs which are directly connected to each other by ties in wall type structures. Reinforcing members are used as a main frame or skeleton to hold and suspend the formwork assembly. Spacers are used to aid in maintaining the sheets in a desired location which ensure adequate concrete cover to the reinforcing prior to pouring of the concrete. Stress distribution members provide external shape, configuration and pattern to the concrete surface by their shape and arrangement.

Abstract: A collapsible display system for securing cladding panels, containing information material, capable of being configured into multiple configurations and, therefore, adaptable to the space allocated to a vendor. The present invention comprises a plurality of hub members connected with a plurality of support members. The hub members are spaced apart from one another defining a plurality of adjacent box-like units wherein adjacent units share common hub members. Diagonal support members are pivotly coupled to the hub members between the front and back of the display system in a scissors-like manner. Horizontal support members having a pivot point at their midpoint are pivotly connected between pairs of adjacent hub members. The lengths of the horizontal support members are greater than the distance between each pair of hub members.

  • Patent number: 5819492
Abstract: The present invention is a collapsible roof truss comprising two elongated wooden structural members consisting of upper and lower chords, the lower chord having a bevel end, the angle of which corresponds to the roof pitch. The hinging mechanism comprises two identical metal disks, each having a rigid annulus at its respective periphery and with an opening in the center therethrough to pivotally connect the disks. Each chord has grooves formed on both sides, the depth of the grooves being equal to the height of the annuli, the grooves on the upper chord being in the form of a semi-circle, the grooves on the lower chord being in the form of an arc corresponding to the angle formed by the bevel, and each chord having a notch therethrough at the center of the radii of the semi-circle and the arc respectively for receiving a fastener therethrough. The grooves, when chords are in assembled relation, form a nearly complete circle.

Abstract: A quick assembly tent framework is disclosed. In the framework, each of mounts has a channel type socket. The socket is eccentrically formed on each mount with thick and thin sidewalls being formed on opposite sides of the socket. Each of the thick and thin sidewalls has a hinge bore and a hinge guide depression. Two connection members are attached to both ends of each scissor bar. Each of the connection members is axially slitted to a depth thus forming a channel type slit with resilient sidewalls being formed on opposite sides of the slit. Each of the resilient sidewalls has a boss on its outside surface. The boss is guided by the guide depression and elastically snapped into the hinge bore when each scissor bar is jointed to an associated mount. The framework is easily and quickly assembled or disassembled without using any tools thus being convenient to users.

  • Patent number: 5701713
Abstract: An adjustable truss is made up of a chain of truss elements sharing common edges. Pairs of adjacent elements are pivotally joined at their common edges, these shared edges acting as hinges. Tension cables are slidably received at the ends of each hinge. The truss can be erected by providing tensile forces in the tension cables. The precise angle of a specific hinge is controlled by actuators driving mechanical linkages connecting the adjacent truss elements associated with that hinge. The mechanical linkages serve to guide the amount of the forces from the cables which are applied to the hinge. In this way, the truss as a whole can be adjusted through an infinite range of configurational changes in three dimensions. The tension cables can be clamped at each hinge end, locking the selected hinge angles and pre-stressing the overall structure. In this way, the truss elements bear the compressive loads, while the cables bear the tensile loads.
