The margin may be along the perimeter edge of the forming panel or along an opening interior to the perimeter of the forming panel. When located near the perimeter, the flexible barrier element may be positioned in a slot extending parallel to the margin and located in the frame. When located near an interior opening, the barrier element may be provided on a reinforcing member positioned around the opening or on a door which shifts to improve access through the opening during placement of forming ties or the like.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2003Date of Patent: November 29, 2005Assignee: Western Forms, Inc.Inventor: Philip T. Patent number: 6931806Abstract: A system and method for forming concrete structures, using foam panels as forms, supported by vertical tracks with horizontal bridge pieces inserted through the forms. The bridge pieces are in the form of triangular webs with coaxial rings for supporting vertical rebars centrally between opposing forms. The coaxial rings on opposing bridge pieces key together to securely hold the vertical rebars. At the corners of the structure, corner retaining extrusions are used having fins for retaning the foam panels, and having various included angles such as 60°, 75°, 90°, 120°, 135°, 150° or 165°. Specific types of corner tie pieces for square, obtuse or acute corners are used to connect together the corner retaining extrusions at the inner and outer corners of the structure.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2003Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Inventor: Timothy A. Patent number: 6929234Abstract: A chamfer for securing precast concrete wall panel forms that are used in tilt-up construction. The chamfer includes an elongate base portion and at least one chamfer portion coextensive with the lengthwise direction of the elongate base portion. The base portion defines a substantially horizontal base plane. The chamfer portion includes a first leg disposed upstanding relative to the base portion, and a second leg portion angularly disposed relative the first leg. The second leg further includes at least one flexible edge that projects beyond at least the base plane or the plane defined by the lengthwise direction extension of the first leg. Depending on which part of the second leg the edge is cantilevered from, it forms a sealed relationship between the chamfer and a casting surface, the chamfer and a plank used as part of the wall form, or both.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2003Date of Patent: August 16, 2005Assignee: Fukuvi USA, Inc.Inventor: Kyozaburo Takagi

Patent number: 6920728Abstract: Site cast or pre-cast columns aligned and braced by pre-cast pre-stressed floor beams are used to erect a concrete skeleton structure for a building. The ends of the horizontal beams are imbedded in the columns at floor levels to stabilize and complete the skeleton. The horizontal beams are pre-stressed and are cast with passages that permit insertion of continuous reinforcing tendons into a network throughout each floor level. The tendons are subsequently post-tensioned so to tie the beams together and to the columns to reinforce the skeleton. Slab drop-forms starting at the roof and progressing floor-by-floor downward allow monolithic post-tensioned floor slabs to be cast to tie the skeleton into a unitary structure. The beams are usually integrated (buried) into each monolithic floor slab, keyed, doweled and bonded with bonding agent at cold joints to become a part of the slab structure.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2003Date of Patent: July 26, 2005Inventor: James M. Patent number: 6907709Abstract: A method for constructing concrete building units comprises forming and pouring a concrete floor on a floor platform, providing interior wall forms on said concrete floor, providing door frames, conduit and piping on said interior wall forms, providing a ceiling form; transporting said floor platform and floor intermediate spaced exterior wall forms, and pouring a concrete mixture in the wall opening intermediate the interior wall forms and the exterior wall forms. A free-flowing concrete mixture for use in relation to the method comprises a combination of cement, sand, water, polystyrene beads, wire fibers and a conditioning concrete additive.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2003Date of Patent: June 21, 2005Inventor: Randall Byrd

Patent number: 6907708Abstract: A low or no fines lightweight concrete mixture. The mixture comprises one part by volume of a cementitious binder, 2-10 parts inert coarse aggregate, a cement additive in an amount of 0.05 to 0.3% by weight of the cementitious binder and an effective amount of water, the additive including 40-99% of a viscosity enhancing agent, which in water either dissolves or forms colloidal dispersions, and 1-60% of an air entrainment agent/surfactant adapted to entrain air when mixed with water and/or pumped. The mixture is particularly suitable for constructing a building panel where a frame is prepared, the front and rear faces being covered by fibre reinforced cementitious sheets and the cavity there between at least partially filled with the lightweight concrete mixture which flows in a manner similar to loose fill.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2000Date of Patent: June 21, 2005Assignee: James Hardie International FinanceInventors: Basil Taha Naji, Graeme McGown

Patent number: 6898910Abstract: The invention disclosed relates to a precast composite header joint system and method for forming and installing the same in a concrete deck structure. According to the invention, the header is cast and cured before being positioned and secured in a recess formed in one of the concrete slabs. A viscous bonding agent is then poured into the void spaces between the header and the concrete slab recess. The bonding agent cures and forms a solid material which fills all of the space between the header and the concrete slab recess. Adjacent headers installed in opposing concrete slab recesses are coupled together by a joint to provide a continuous deck structure.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2003Date of Patent: May 31, 2005Inventor: Frank Bellino, Jr.

Patent number: 6898917Abstract: The invention provides a method for making a concrete floor slab using sub-grade waterproofing in a manner that favors the use of water-based adhesives for affixing floor covering materials. The method comprises casting a hydratable cementitious composition onto a flooring membrane, the composition having a shrinkage reduction admixture and a water:cementitious binder ratio sufficiently low that substantially all of the water moisture is retained in the hydration reaction, and achieving a fully adhered bond with the flooring membrane.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2002Date of Patent: May 31, 2005Assignee: W. Patent number: 6892505Abstract: A method of construction of structures such as large, decorative pots, water features and outdoor free-standing fireplaces. The method comprises pouring a concrete base to which a skeletal reinforcing structure in the desired shape is set. Thereafter, metal screen and a cementitious material is applied over the skeletal structure to form a shell. Openings may be formed either when shaping the shell or later by cutting away areas of the steel skeletal structure. Suitable decorations such as graphics may be applied using stains, dyes or carving techniques.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2002Date of Patent: May 17, 2005Inventor: John Pingitore
