Attaching Element Received In Channel Or Aperture In Frame Patents (Class 52/775)
  • Patent number: 4873803
Abstract: A window structure using a structural retainer support for converting a conventional window into a double insulated window. Sealant tape is applied to the inside periphery of the primary conventional window pane. A thin flat retainer is secured to the window adjacent to the sealant tape. The flat retainer has a flange that is integral with the retainer and extends from its midsection and lies parallel to the adjacent flat portion defining a channel therebetween. A second window pane lies in abutting contact with the flange of the retainer while also lying in abutting contact with the sealant strip which is tacky to provide a dead air space between the two window panes. A trim member is latched to the retainer by having a longitudinally extending strip means that latches into a latch means in the channel of the retainer. The trim member exerts pressure on the second window pane to firmly retain the pane against the sealant tape.

  • Patent number: 4793106
Abstract: A window main frame, particularly for installation in an inclined roof, is provided with a groove extending into the internal edge surface and adapted to receive the edge of an internal panel member and having a width that is substantially larger than the thickness of the panel member. The panel member abuts against the lateral wall closest to the frame opening and a slit is left between the panel member and the other lateral wall of the groove. The panel member is fixed in the groove by means of spring clamps resting against one lateral wall of the groove, and by a resilient tongue directed towards the other lateral wall of the slit the panel member is pressed against the lateral wall, thereby preventing the panel member from being pulled out of the groove.

  • Patent number: 4779392
Abstract: A building wall comprises channel-shaped uprights and metal-clad insulating panels arranged in alternating sequence so that the interior faces of the panels form parts of the interior walls of the building while the exterior faces of the panels form parts of the exterior walls of the building. Flanges are formed along the vertical edges of the sheet metal outer faces of the panels. These flanges extend into the open sides of the channel-shaped uprights and are situated in facing relationship with the inner faces of the uprights. Vertically aligned lances, struck out from the opposed plates of the channel-shaped uprights, are engaged with L-shaped slots of the flanges of the panels. The lances have camming surfaces which tightly urge the flanges of the panels against the inner faces of the side plates of the uprights so that the flanges and uprights reinforce each other to form a strong, rigid wall structure.

Abstract: A curtain wall comprises a framework of elongate main frame members defining cells in which infill panels are clamped by auxiliary frame members secured to the front of the framework. The panels are sealed in the cells by gaskets on the frame members. To prevent the weight of unclamped panels from distorting the auxiliary members and their securing screws, they rest on support elements projecting forwardly from slots in the transverse main frame members at the bottoms of the cells. The elements may relieve the auxiliary members entirely, or may rest on them when they are secured. Alternatively the panels may rest on the auxiliary members which transmit their weight to the support elements. • Patent number: 4132044
Abstract: A prime window assembly is disclosed, wherein the assembly comprises a window pane and a frame assembly surrounding the pane. The frame assembly includes a frame and a removable glazing member. The frame has a first molding which receives the window pane, with the pane generally cushioned by bedding compound. The frame also has a second molding for engaging one end of the glazing member. Finally, the frame has hook engaging means located between the first and the second moldings. The glazing member has a retaining flange at one edge for engaging the second molding on the frame, and a glazing bead on the opposite side of the glazing member for contacting the pane. A hook-shaped flange extends away from the glazing member in a position to be hookedly interengaged with said hook engaging means in the frame when the window pane is placed under load, such as by high winds.

  • Patent number: 4117640
Abstract: A thermal barrier system for panel installations comprises at least one gutter member attachable to a structure. The system further comprises a face member and a thermally insulative coupler member. The coupler member has an intermediate body portion to which are attached a pair of resilient legs which are rotatable into lockable engagement with a pair of slots defined in the gutter member. A second pair of resilient legs are attached to the intermediate body portion of the coupler member and are configured to snap into locking engagement with a pair of slots defined in the face member. The coupler is disengageable from the gutter and face members by a reverse rotation. Gaskets for engaging a panel between the face member and the gutter member are attached to the face member and the gutter member.

  • Patent number: 4107893
Abstract: A structural framework for a building, to be assembled from prefabricated parts, comprises a skeleton of columns and struts supporting wall elements which are framed by upper and lower struts and by columns spanned by these struts. Both the struts and the columns have faces formed with longitudinal slots receiving coplanar strips of rubber or other preferably thermally insulating material which project into the opening bounded thereby and coact with retainers on the columns and/or struts for holding the wall elements in position. Especially with wall elements in the form of windows, the retainers may be fixed sills set back from the slots of opposite strut or column faces. In other instances, the retainers may comprise brackets slidably engaging in the strut and/or columm slots and anchor lugs on the wall elements engageable with these brackets.
