    Abstract: A polymer dispersion or solution containing a hydrophobic polysaccharide, which is dispersed or dissolved in liquid phase, and plasticizer composition of the polysaccharide, whereby at least 10% by weight of the plasticizer composition is formed from alkenyl succinic anhydride. The invention also relates to the preparation of polymer dispersions and solutions and to the films and coatings produced from them. The dispersions according to the invention are stable, and coating with excellent film-forming properties can be prepared from them.

The use of the C9 to C11 alkyl benzoates provides low viscosity low volatility plasticisers, which are fast fusing with lower hot bench gelation temperature and which can be used to reduce the staining problems associated with use of di-2-ethyl hexyl phthalate and diisononyl phthalate. The low viscosity of the C9 to C11 alkyl benzoates allows the formulation of solvent free flexible PVC formulations meeting stringent VOC limitations.

    Abstract: An ink retainer is comprised of a flexible polyurethane foam which is prepared by reacting a polyether polyol with a polyisocyanate. The polyol includes at least 20% by weight based on the total weight of the polyol of a polymeric polyol having styrene and/or acrylonitrile grafted thereto. The foam contains at least 20 cells/inch. The foam is inserted in a container at a compression ratio by volume of 1/2 to 1/10 when the cell number is 20 to 50 cells/inch and 1/1 to 1/5 when the cell number is more than 50 cells/inch. The foam is resistant against attack from ink and ensures stable constant supply of ink.

The halogenated anhydride imparts flame retardancy to the compositions and also promotes cure by catalyzing the hydrolysis/condensation reaction of the silane copolymer. These dispersants may be used in the production of polymer polyols having high styrene contents and high solids contents. The polymers containing the anhydride groups may be preformed polymers which are then reacted with the polyol, or may be formed in the polyol directly prior to esterification with the polyol to form the dispersants. Maleic anhydride and methacrylic arthydride and derivatives thereof are examples of monomers suitable for the dispersants. Polymer polyols made using these dispersants may be reacted with polyisocyanates to produce polyurethanes.
