Abstract: Ethylene-acrylic acid type interpolymer compositions and films having increased slip and reduced block. A compositionally uniform interpolymer is compounded with at least one amide additive of the formula R.sub.1 -CO-NH-R.sub.2 in which R.sub.1 is selected from saturated alkyl groups having from 13 to 25 carbon atoms and mono-olefinically unsaturated alkyl groups having from 17 to 23 carbon atoms and in which R.sub.2 is selected from saturated alkyl groups having 14 to 26 carbon atoms and mono-olefinically unsaturated alkyl groups having from 18 to 24 carbon atoms; and optionally, finely divided inorganic. In another embodiment, a compositionally uniform or a compositionally non-uniform interpolymer is compounded with: (i) about 0.025-1 weight percent of saturated secondary fatty acid amide; (ii) about 0.025-1 weight percent of unsaturated or mixed unsaturated secondary fatty acid amide; and optionally (iii) about 0.025-1.5 weight percent of finely divided inorganic.

  • Patent number: 4675122
Abstract: Combined antiblocking agent and lubricant concentrate based on polyolefin, which contains diatomaceous earth, precipitated silica and/or silica gel as the antiblocking agent, one or more amides of unsaturated C.sub.18 -C.sub.22 -fatty acids and optionally further conventional additives and which is characterized in that it contains 5 to 35% by weight of antiblocking agent and 5 to 30% by weight of lubricant. The high lubricant concentration in the combination concentrate according to the invention is obtained in that the antiblocking agent and the lubricant are incorporated into the polyolefin in the form of a homogeneous, finely divided mixture. The antiblocking agent serves as a carrier for the micronized lubricant, i.e. the lubricant is adsorbed on the large surface of the antiblocking agent, so that the "flowing away" of the lubricant otherwise observed in the case of high lubricant concentrations during incorporation into the polyolefin is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4647608
Abstract: A method for the production of polyolefin resins containing both an organic amide and a zinc compound. One composition is prepared which contains the polyolefin and the amide, but which does not contain the zinc compound. Another composition is prepared which contains the polyolefin and the zinc compound, but which does not contain the amide. The two compositions are extruded separately, and the individual resins so obtained are blended to form the desired resin composition containing both the amide and the zinc compound, thereby preventing the zinc stearate from catalyzing the dehydration of the aliphatic amide to a nitrile.
