    Abstract: An apparatus and method for continuously forming composites comprising filler materials and thermoactive materials, particularly waste cellulosic materials and waste thermoplastics, are described. One embodiment of the apparatus includes either a batchwise or continuous mixer, such as a cyclone, for forming mixtures comprising filler and thermoactive material. The mixtures are conveyed to a continuous consolidation apparatus. Alternatively, the mixtures may be densified in a densifying apparatus before entering the consolidation apparatus. The consolidation apparatus includes a hot-gas distribution system having plural paired gas cells, such as rollers or hoods, for applying hot air to the charge. A first cell of each pair applies gas to the mixture. The second cell of each pair operates at a pressure less than that of the first cell, thereby creating a pressure differential across the charge.

    Abstract: A resin composition comprising(I) a granular or powdery resin which is a condensation product of a phenol, an aldehyde and optionally a nitrogen-containing compound having at least two active hydrogens and is characterized by (A) containing spherical primary particles and their secondary agglomerated particles each having a particle diameter of 0.1 to 150 microns, (B) having such a size that at least 50% by weight thereof can pass through a 100 Tyler mesh sieve, and (C) having a free phenol content, determined by liquid chromatography, of not more than 500 ppm, and(II) at least one member selected from the group consisting of (1) a rubbery elastic material, (2) a thermoplastic resin and (3) a curable resin other than said granular or powdery resin (I) and/or a filler material other than said granular or powdery resin (I).

    Abstract: Polyurethane moldings having an inhomogeneously colored surface with color contrasts in fiber-like distribution are made by incorporating colored fibers of a specified type in a polyurethane forming reactionmixture. The colored fibers must have a staple length of from 0.1 to 6 mm, a denier of from 0.1 to 25 dtex, and a coloring agent that does not migrate or dissolve in the polyurethane-forming materials. These fibers are generally used in a quantity such that they represent from 0.1 to 10 wt. % of the polyurethane-forming reaction mixture. Shoe soles, shoe heels, multiple layer soles and padded components are examples of moldings which may be produced in accordance with the present invention.

    Abstract: This invention provides composite material compositions comprising wastepaper, a thermoplastic resin and/or other additive(s), said compositions having higher heat resistance, flame retardancy and mechanical strength and smaller linear shrinkage in molding than the conventional compositions of synthetic resins alone or blended with woodmeal or an inorganic filler. There is also provided a method of producing said compositions comprising a wastepaper crushing step, a step of mixing crushed wastepaper with a thermoplastic resin and/or other additive(s) while drying said wastepaper, a blend melting step, a blend kneading step and a blend granulating step. In an embodiment of this invention, scraps of moldings from the composite material compositions using wastepaper may be mixed with wastepaper, a thermoplastic resin and/or other additive(s) and similarly treated and molded into a new composition.
