Patent number: 11225543Abstract: In one or more embodiments, the present invention provides a novel approach to the addition of plasticizers for softening TPUs, i.e., lowering the durometer and the melt viscosity. This approach involves incorporating bonded sulfonate groups with quaternary ammonium counterions into the TPU. In one or more embodiments of the present invention, the softening of TPU is achieved by incorporating an ionic diol, such as N,N-bis (2-hydroxyethyl)-2-aminoethane-sulfonic acid (BES), coupled with various bulky alkyl ammonium cations, during the chain extension step of the TPU synthesis. It is believed that that steric hindrance of the bulky quaternary ammonium groups weakens the dipole-dipole interactions of the sulfonate groups and/or lowers the crystallinity of the hard block, thereby creating additional free volume that softens the polymer and lowers the melt viscosity.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2019Date of Patent: January 18, 2022Assignee: The University of AkronInventors: Matthew Becker, Robert A. Patent number: 10894343Abstract: A rigid nylon porous material sheet is produced by the adhesive bonding of kinked nylon fibers having lengths of 1 to 5 inches. These fibers are cut from melt spun nylon or harvested from clean carpet fibers by shearing. The adhesive used is glycol, which attacks nylon at 180° C. forming a gel on the surface of the kinked fibers, but does not attack the nylon fibers when the kinked fiber assembly is cooled to 150° C. to precipitate ultrafine nylon within the gel. The fiber assembly is heated to 160° C. to bond the nylon fibers. It is then washed in hot water to remove unused glycol. The other adhesive is polyurethane, which is applied to the kinked fibers using coupling agents of aqueous resorcinol and vinyl pyrrolidone.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2018Date of Patent: January 19, 2021Inventor: Michael A. Patent number: 9404026Abstract: The present invention relates to a polyurea system, the use of such a polyurea system for sealing, linking, gluing, or covering of cellular tissue, and a dosing system having two chambers for a polyurea system such as this. The polyurea system comprises as components: A) an isocyanate-functioning prepolymer, which can be derived by reacting aliphatic isocyanates with polyoles, and B) an amino-functioning ester of aspartic acid. According to the invention, water and/or tertiary amine is added to the system, in order to increase the reacting speed of the prepolymer with the amino-functioning ester of aspartic acid while decreasing the setting time at the same time.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2015Date of Patent: August 2, 2016Assignee: Adhesys Medical GmbHInventors: Heike Heckroth, Hartmut Nefzger, Christoph Eggert
