    Abstract: A lignin product-containing binder and a process for its production are described.The lignin product consists of chlorolignin which has been treated with strong alkali (NaOH) for preferably 0.5-3 h. at 50.degree.-100.degree. C. and a pH of 10-13.5. The alkali-treated chlorolignin product can be used on its own as a binder component or, preferably, together with phenol-formaldehyde. The weight ratio phenol/lignin product is suitably from 4:1 to 1:4.

The fillers in question comprise biomasses based on microorganisms and the derivatives and decomposition products of microorganisms, particularly biologically purified sludges, which have been deodorized and irreversibly denatured by reaction with isocyanates and/or carbonyl compounds and compounds capable of aminoplast and/or phenoplast formation.
