Abstract: A composition comprising cement, a synthetic latex, preferably SBR latex, water and a low molecular weight polymer. The low molecular polymer preferably has a thermogravimetric value of less than 25 percent weight loss at 350.degree. C. The composition is useful in a method of making a cement composition containing an elastomeric latex.
Abstract: Reinforcing material for hydraulic substances such as cement, mortar, concrete or the like and a method for producing it. The reinforcing material consists essentially of an elongated product of a synthetic resin having protrusions on its surface and which was obtained by extruding and subsequent stretching. The method comprises mixing a polyethylene having a melt index of not more than 0.01 at 190.degree. C. under the load of 2.16 Kg with a polyethylene having a melt index of more than 0.01 thereby to obtain a polyethylene mixture having a melt index of 0.01 to 10, melt-extruding the polyethylene mixture under such conditions as to give an extruded product having a jagged surface and stretching the extruded product, whereby the reinforcing material having protrusions on its surface is obtained. Hydraulic substances with the reinforcing material incorporated therein is useful for production of concrete panel, concrete pipe, concrete channel, tetrapod, sleeper, tunnel, etc.
Abstract: Delayed action setting of a composition comprising an anionic latex of a film forming polymer by addition of a delayed action setting agent characterized in that the setting agent is a compound containing a multivalent metal cation having defined solubility characteristics in a quantity not greater than 2.5% wt/wt on total composition and not greater than 11% wt/wt based on film forming polymer solids in the composition.
Abstract: Rust preventing synthetic resin compositions to be added to cement or mortar, which have high strength, adhesion and waterproof, contain 0.05.about.5 parts by weight of a primary alkanol-amine having 2 to 8 carbon atoms based on 100 parts by weight of resin solid content in a synthetic resin emulsion.
Abstract: Quick setting, anionic bitumen emulsion compositions, suitable for road paving, recreational surfaces, etc., are formulated by emulsifying the bitumen in water with an ammonium or alkali metal salt of a hydrocarbon-substituted sulfuric, sulfonic, phosphoric or phosphonic acid emulsifier, mixing the emulsion with a fine aggregate and, prior to spreading the aggregate emulsion mixture, introducing an alkaline earth metal set initiator. The resulting composition rapidly breaks to a hard cohesive structure, so as to permit early use by traffic.
Abstract: The disclosed aqueous binder system has a pot life of more than 15 minutes at room temperature and is normally stored as a two-part system. The first part comprises an alkali metal silicate, and the second part comprises a coreactant metal salt of marginal water solubility (at room temperature and neutral pH) which provides reactive divalent metal ions. A rubber latex is normally included in one or both parts, preferably the coreactant (second) part. Preferred coreactants are metal salts of Group II, A or B of the Periodic Table, particularly phosphates, carbonates, or borates of magnesium and zinc. A preferred method of application involves blending the two-part system, spraying it onto a surface, and permitting the sprayed material to cure to a water-resistant layer having a Barcol hardness of at least 10. A low density inorganic filler can be incorporated into the coating to reduce its density below 0.4 g/cc and to provide better insulative properties.
Abstract: A hardenable composition is disclosed containing magnesite, a filler material containing cellulose powder, magnesium chloride, latex and water; and an article obtained from this composition. The invention is particularly suited for insulating panels for the construction industry, for repairing and resurfacing exterior concrete and for other exterior construction including the manufacture of molded pipes.
Abstract: Water proofing compositions containing a reclaimed butyl rubber of used inner tube scraps as the active component have a high adhesion to cement mortar or concrete and are used for water proofing materials in buildings and civil engineering works.
Abstract: An asbestos-free gasket is produced from a composition which comprises from about 5% to about 20% of an organic latex binder, from about 5% to about 35% of a cellulosic fibrous material, from about 0% to about 30% of mineral wool, at least about 50% of an inorganic filler, and from about 0 to about 5% of a coloring additive. The percentages being on a dry weight basis of the gasket. The organic materials are present in an amount no greater than 40% of the total dry weight of the gasket and preferably no greater than 30%. The inorganic filler is an inactive additive, stable at a temperature greater than 1700.degree. F., such as Portland Cement, diatomaceous earth, silicates, carbonates, barytes and mixtures thereof. Preferably the inorganic filler is a mixture of barytes and talc in a ratio of from about 1 to 0, to 3 to 1.
