And the reactor alloy of the present invention is greatly enhanced in impact resistance in comparison with a melt blend same amount of rubber component as reactor alloy of the present invention without impairing heat resistance and elastic modulus by further comprising polyphenylene ether.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a toughened plastic and its preparation method, with said toughened plastic being obtained by rubber-plastic blending of brittle or less brittle plastics and a rubber mixture. Said rubber mixture consists of powdery rubbers having a cross-linked structure and an average particle size of not more than 0.50 &mgr;m, and at least one selected from the group consisting of unvulcanized rubbers and thermoplastic elastomers. The morphology and the particle size distribution of the rubber phase contained in said toughened plastic can be controlled by changing the particle size of the powdery rubbers having a cross-linking structure and choosing proper unvulcanized rubbers or thermoplastic elastomers. The toughened plastic, according to the present invention has good toughness and processability while keeping better strength and stiffness.

The composition in the partially or completely crosslinked form can provided molded products of more excellent low-temperature properties, tensile strength, elongation at break and elastomeric properties than the conventional vulcanized rubbers.

    Abstract: A thermoplastic rubber composition prepared by crosslinking 1-99 parts by weight of a crosslinkable rubbery polymer (A) and 1-99 parts by weight of a polypropylene resin (B) (total amount of (A) and (B) being 100 parts by weight), wherein said (B) comprises a polypropylene resin (B-1) characterized by generation of a torque higher than Mo after melting and a polypropylene resin (B-2) characterized by generation of a torque not higher than Mo after melting, in a melting test of said (B) in the presence of an organic peroxide (temperature condition being at 200° C.), and Mo being a torque right after complete melting.

The fuel impermeability and the low-temperature flexibility of the resulting rubber composition are improved to be comparable to those of FKM, and the amount of the plasticizer and its reaction product to be released from the rubber composition in fuel is reduced. Adding a controlled amount of carbon black to the rubber composition makes the composition have favorable electroconductivity. The rubber composition is formed into hoses or electroconductive hoses of low fuel permeation.

    Abstract: A thermoplastic elastomer produced without a hydrogenation step is functionalized utilizing a free radical initiator and a functionalizing monomer having at least one point of unsaturation. The base polymers can be produced by copolymerizing an &agr;-olefin capable of producing an amorphous backbone with a comonomer which provides a “hook” for grafting to with a living polystyrene chain. Another method is to copolymerize an &agr;-olefin monomer system capable of producing an amorphous backbone with a comonomer containing a functional group from which an anionically polymerizable monomer is grown from the backbone. A third method involves copolymerizing an &agr;-olefin monomer system capable of giving an amorphous backbone with an olefin-terminated polystyrene comonomer. In a less preferred embodiment a conventional EPDM polymer can be metallated and a monoalkenyl aromatic compound anionically polymerizable monomer grown from the backbone.
