Publication number: 20110189381Abstract: An apparatus includes an electronic component mounted on a substrate and metal conductors electrically connecting the electronic component. A conformal coating overlies the metal conductors and comprises a polymer into which a phosphine compound is impregnated and/or covalently bonded. Accordingly, the conformal coating is able to protect the metal conductors from corrosion caused by sulfur components (e.g., elemental sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, and/or sulfur oxides) in the air. That is, the phosphine compound in the polymer reacts with any corrosion inducing sulfur component in the air and prevents the sulfur component from reacting with the underlying metal conductors. Preferably, the phosphine compound in the polymer does not react with other components in the air (e.g., carbon dioxide) which would otherwise deplete its availability for the target reaction. The phosphine compound may be rendered completely non-volatile by covalently bonding it directly into the polymer backbone.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 29, 2010Publication date: August 4, 2011Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Dylan Joseph Boday, Joseph Kuczynski, Mark Anthony Marnell, Robert Ernst Meyer, III, Timothy Jerome Tofil

Publication number: 20080213661Abstract: The present invention concerns polymers obtained by anionic initiation and bearing functions that can be activated by cationic initiations that are not reactive in the presence of anionic polymerization initiators. The presence of such cationic initiation functions allow an efficient cross-linking of the polymer after moulding, particularly in the form of a thin film. It is thus possible to obtain polymers with well-defined properties in terms of molecular weight and cross-linking density. The polymers of the present invention are capable of dissolving ionic compounds inducing a conductivity for the preparation of solid electrolytes.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 9, 2008Publication date: September 4, 2008Applicant: HYDRO-QUEBECInventors: Christophe Michot, Alain Vallee, Paul-Etienne Harvey, Michel Gauthier, Michel Armand

Patent number: 7323518Abstract: The present invention provided a norbornene compound with cross-linkable groups and their derivative polymers, wherein said cross-linkable groups were olefin or epoxy groups. Norbornene polymers with cross-linkable side chain and their block copolymers as well as modified derivatives were prepared via living ring-open metathesis polymerization method. The resulting polymers with excellent solubility and optic properties had narrow molecular weight distribution, well-controlled molecular weight, small refraction ration and high transparency. They were also suitable for preparing hybrid materials with high thermal stability and chemical resistance.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2006Date of Patent: January 29, 2008Assignee: National Taiwan University of Science & TechnologyInventors: Der-Jang Liaw, Ching-Chong Huang
