  • Patent number: 5747607
Abstract: A sheet molding composition is provided which exhibits controllable thickening. The composition includes a low molecular weight polyester in which some of the chain ends have been endcapped with functional groups which are unable to react with the thickeners employed in the sheet molding composition. The sheet molding composition has a low viscosity of from about 6 to about 20 million centipoise which allows molding at low pressures of from about 100 to about 300 psi.

  • Patent number: 5688867
Abstract: This invention relates to a polyester resin comprising (A) from about 5% to about 50% by weight reactive diluent and (B) from about 50% to about 95% by weight of an unsaturated polyester resin prepared from at least one component selected from the group consisting of (i) from about 0.5% up to about 8% by mole of a polyhydric alcohol, having at least three hydroxyl groups, and at least one transesterification catalyst, (ii) from about 2% up to about 12% by mole of a reaction product of a polyol and a fatty carboxylic acid, and (iii) from about 2% up to about 12% by mole of a fatty reactant selected from the group consisting of a fatty primary alcohol, a fatty epoxide, a fatty monocarboxylic acid and mixtures thereof, wherein each member of the group has up to about 100 carbon atoms. In another aspect, the invention relates to mixtures of the above polyester resins with conventional polyester resins. Methods of reducing volatile organic compound emissions are also part of the invention.

  • Patent number: 5633341
Abstract: The invention concerns new, two component compositions, on the basis of liquid polymers containing acid anhydride groups and sterically hindered, aromatic di- or polyamines, said compositions being able to be crosslinked at room temperature. Characteristic of these compositions is their low toxicity and controllable crosslinking behaviour. The crosslinked products are characterized by high mechanical strength, thermal resistance and hydrolytic stability. The invention also concerns methods of manufacture of the said compositions and their use as coatings, potting compounds, sealants and adhesives.

  • Patent number: 5571863
Abstract: A laminating resin is made from (1) an unsaturated polyester resin comprising maleic acid, phthalic acid, and glycol(s), (2) a diacrylate or dimethacrylate of alkoxylated bisphenol-A, and (3) ethylene glycol dimethacrylate. The resin requires no styrene to achieve excellent laminating resin properties, and is significantly inhibited from emitting volatiles during use.

  • Patent number: 5569737
Abstract: A process for making polyetheresters is disclosed. A polyether is reacted with a carboxylic acid in the presence of a strong protic acid or a metal salt of a strong protic acid to promote insertion of the carboxylic acid into polyether carbon-oxygen bonds to produce a polyetherester. The polyetheresters are useful for various applications in the polyurethane and unsaturated polyester industries.
