Abstract: There is provided a method of pultrusion using multiple resins. In the method a continuous interior reinforcement layer and a continuous exterior reinforcement layer are supplied and the interior reinforcement layer is infused with a first resin and then combined with the exterior reinforcement layer to form a pultrusion reinforcement structure. The pultrusion reinforcement structure passes into an infusion die where a second resin infuses the exterior reinforcement layer, and then passes into a curing die to cure the resins and form a composite article. The second resin comprises an aliphatic isocyanate polyurethane resin with a greater concentration of aliphatic isocyanate than is present in the first resin to give the composite article superior UV resistance. A pultruded composite article produced by the pultrusion method is also provided.

Abstract: A polyurethane binder prepared by a polyurethane compound having double bonds and by crosslinking the polyurethane compounds. The polyurethane binder having double bonds can be dispersed in water with the dispersant including a reactive group such as a carboxyl group, and thus an organic solvent is not required to produce an electrode. The crosslinked polyurethane binder with a high crosslinking density provides an excellent elastic force and binding force, and thus the electrode and the lithium battery employing the polyurethane binder have improved recovery properties and charge/discharge properties.

  • Patent number: 7247673
Abstract: A coating for weatherstrips, windshield wipers, door seals, trunk seals, sunroof seals, windshield seals and the like. The coating comprises a water-based formula that provides high abrasion resistance and, optimally, also provides excellent weathering resistance. The abrasion resistance property is achieved via a combination of boron nitride and a high molecular weight silicone resin. Flexibility and weathering resistance are achieved via the addition of an acrylic/polyurethane/fluoropolymer resin binder blend and high UV-stabilizers and absorbers. Also provided is a method of manufacturing such coatings that comprises the steps of pre-dispersing the boron nitride in water and then combining the pre-dispersed boron nitride with the silicone resin and other ingredients.

  • Patent number: 7226978
Abstract: The invention provides an implantable membrane for regulating the transport of analytes therethrough that includes a matrix including a first polymer; and a second polymer dispersed throughout the matrix, wherein the second polymer forms a network of microdomains which when hydrated are not observable using photomicroscopy at 400× magnification or less. In one aspect, the homogeneous membrane of the present invention has hydrophilic domains dispersed substantially throughout a hydrophobic matrix to provide an optimum balance between oxygen and glucose transport to an electrochemical glucose sensor.

  • Patent number: 7193010
Abstract: An aqueous resin composition satisfying the following criteria (I)–(III). (I) The aqueous resin composition contains (a) an aqueous dispersion of a polyurethane resin obtained from a macromolecular polyol, organic polyisocyanate, chain extending agent and 2,2-dimethylolbutanoic acid, and, if required, (b) an aqueous dispersion of an acrylic resin. (II) When the resin comprising this aqueous resin composition contains mainly a polyurethane resin, the inherent viscosity (?inh) of the polyurethane resin measured at a concentration of 0.5 g/dL in dimethylformamide solution is in the range of 0.2–0.7 dL/g. After this aqueous resin composition is dried, the elastic modulus at 25° C. of the film obtained by heat treatment at 80° C. for 8 hours is in the range of 8.0×106–5.0×108 Pa, and the elastic modulus at 80° C. is 8.0×107 Pa or less.

  • Patent number: 7151134
Abstract: A thermoplastically processable cured rubber composition comprises a crosslinked or cured urethane polymer dispersed in a matrix made of a thermoplastic polymeric material. In one aspect, the matrix forms a continuous phase and the crosslinked urethane polymer is in the form of particles forming a non-continuous phase. The processable rubber compositions can be made by a process of dynamic vulcanization of a urethane prepolymer material in the presence of the thermoplastic matrix material. The process involves combining a urethane prepolymer, a curing agent capable of reacting with the urethane prepolymer, and a thermoplastic material to form a mixture, and heating the mixture at a temperature and for a time sufficient to effect reaction between the curing agent and the prepolymer. Mechanical energy is supplied to the mixture during the heating step so that the crosslinking or curing of the urethane prepolymer occurs while the prepolymer and thermoplastic are undergoing a mixing.
