  • Patent number: 6829362
Abstract: A curable composition and method for producing a soft yet durable elastomeric in-the-ear product having a Shore A hardness of about 55 or less upon cure. The curable composition incorporated in a hearing aid apparatus provides a soft, flexible tip member which was mated to a rigid hearing aid shell. The tip member provides better comfort, durability and acoustic performance for a variety of ear canal shapes and movements. The curable composition which provides these properties includes a urethane acrylate oligomer and a reactive plasticizer or reactive diluent to provide a Shore hardness of about 55 or less upon cure. The curable composition may be used for other ear-worn products where these properties are desired like for ear plugs, ear phones and ear connectors.

  • Patent number: 6824874
Abstract: Methods and materials for sealing and insulating a fuel cell plate are disclosed. The disclosed process includes applying a coating precursor on at least one surface of the fuel cell plate, and curing the coating precursor by exposure to radiation. Disclosed coating precursors include those containing an acrylated oligomer and a photoinitiator, which can polymerize in response to ultraviolet or electron beam radiation. Other disclosed coating precursors are those that can polymerize in response to exposure to infrared radiation or heating, and include epoxy nitrile resins and organopolysiloxane resins. The disclosed processes and coating precursors provide certain advantages over conventional methods and designs for insulating and sealing fuel cell plates since the disclosed coating precursors can be quickly and precisely applied to fuel cell plates by, for example, screening printing.

  • Publication number: 20040186240
Abstract: A carbamate or terminal urea functional vinyl polymer is prepared by reacting a compound having an hydroxyl group and a carbamate group, terminal urea group, or a group that can be converted to a carbamate or terminal urea group, with a cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride group to form an ester bond and a free acid group from the anhydride; and reacting the free acid group with a compound having an epoxide group. The cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride group may be pendant to a vinyl polymer, or one of the compound having an hydroxyl group, a compound having the cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride group, and the compound having an epoxide group may have polymerizable ethylenic unsaturation that is polymerized, optionally with one or more copolymerizable monomers to form a vinyl polymer. When the compound having an hydroxyl group has a group that can be converted to a carbamate or terminal urea group, the group is converted to the carbamate or terminal urea group after step (a).
