Abstract: An aqueous, resinous solution of a curable, polymeric reaction product, the cured polymeric flame resistant coating and methods for producing them are provided. The solution is formed by direct reaction or prepolymer reaction and chain extension reaction of a methylol and/or hydroxyl-containing quaternary phosphonium compound, divalent nitrogen-containing compound and a heteroatom-containing compound. A nitrogen-containing compound has at least 2 active hydrogen and/or methylol radicals. The direct or prepolymer reaction has present a tertiary amine.
Abstract: A method of producing dihydroxy-terminated poly(2,2,3,3,4,4-hexafluoropene-1,5-diol formal) of a desired number average molecular weight by controlling the relative amounts of 1,3-dioxa-5,5,6,6,7,7-hexafluorocyclooctane monomer, 2,2,3,3,4,4-hexafluoropentane-1,5-diol, and the catalyst trifluoromethane sulfonic acid (having a determined activity) used to produce the polymer.

Abstract: Copolymers containing oxymethylene and 2-fluoromethoxyethylene repeat units. These copolymers, of improved heat stability, may be prepared by copolymerizing trioxane with a derivative of a cyclic ether whose molecule contains at least two adjacent carbon atoms and in which an oxymethylene group carries a fluoromethyl substituent, especially epifluorohydrin.

Abstract: There are described certain polymeric compositions which are made flame retarding, provide an incandescent char-forming crust, are not dropping and do not promote toxic fumes, in view of the addition, on 100 parts in weight of polymer, of 5-40 parts in weight of the reaction product between an acid of the phosphorus and at least a hydroxyalchyl derivative of at least a compound selected between the isocyanuric acid, the melamine and the urea, and, in a modified embodiment, in addition to the above indicated reaction product, of 5-30 parts in weight of a polymer of an ammonium polyphosphate of formula (NH.sub.4 PO.sub.3).sub.n", wherein n" is greater than 20. In a further modified embodiment there is added amine phosphate, such as the ortho- or pyrophosphate of melamine, in amount of 1-10 parts in weight. Abstract: A free flowing antistatic composition is provided in a solid particulate form for use with polymeric materials. The composition is a flowable mixture of predominantly C.sub.18 alkyl ethoxylated primary amine particulates with micron sized silica gel particulates. The composition of the present invention is particularly useful with food packaging polyolefin materials.
Abstract: Aminoplast resin pigments for paper making comprise large surface area (>5m.sup.2 /g) particles, preferably of size below 200 .mu.m, made from an aminoplast resin made by condensing formaldehyde with urea and/or melamine in the presence of 0.2 to 15 moles, per 100 moles of formaldehyde, or sulphite, phosphate, phosphite or borate radicals. The resin may be converted to the particulate form by gelling the resin in extended form by dilution with an aqueous acid, followed by drying, curing, and comminution of the gelled resin. To effect gelation in extended form the resin is preferably diluted to a resin solids content of less than 25% by weight by the addition of sufficient acid to cause gelation within 20 minutes.
Abstract: Polyphosphazene copolymers are prepared which are comprised of repeating units represented by the formulas: ##STR1## wherein X is represented by the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, substituted and unsubstituted alkyl radicals containing from 1 to 15 carbon atoms, substituted and unsubstituted cycloalkyl, aryl, arylalkyl, and heterocyclic radicals; X' is selected from the group consisting of substituted and unsubstituted alkoxy, aryloxy, mercapto and amino radicals, and mixtures thereof; and 20.ltoreq.(w+y+z).ltoreq.50,000 per polymer unit.The polyphosphazene polymers of the present invention are prepared by the reaction of the enol form of an aldehyde or a ketone and an additional reactant such as an alkanol, aryl alcohol, mercaptan, or amine with poly(dichlorophosphazene) in the presence of a tertiary amine. The polymers of this invention may be modified by crosslinking or curing.

Abstract: A melamine-aldehyde-phosphate condensation product which is useful as a fire-retardant, especially for plastics materials, and which is made by reacting melamine and at least one aldehyde, or a condensate of melamine and at least one aldehyde, with at least one oxyacid of phosphorus or precursor therefor or ester thereof until the condensation product is essentially non-acidic, the proportions of melamine and aldehyde being chosen such that the molar ratio of units derived from melamine: units derived from aldehyde in the condensation product is in the range 1:1.5 to 1:4.5, and the proportions of melamine and oxyacid of phosphorus or precursor therefor or ester thereof being chosen such that the molar ratio of units derived from melamine:phosphorus in the condensation product is in the range 1:0.4 to 1:1.7.
