  • Patent number: 6500911
Abstract: The invention provides polyester dials suitable for preparation of polyurethanes, and provides polyurethanes derived therefrom. The invention also provides spandex filaments prepared from these polyurethanes, which exhibit improved elasticity, tensile strength, and resistance to hydrolysis. The present invention also provides dialkyl amino group-containing polyol additives having a high solubility in dimethylacetamide solvent, which when incorporated into a polyurethane protect the polyurethane and derived spandex filaments from deterioration or discoloration, and confer an improved modulus of elasticity. The polyurethanes and spandex filaments of the invention provide fabrics having a soft feeling, excellent hydrolysis resistance, wrinkle resistance, and adhesive properties, and which are particularly suitable for preparation of an artificial leather.

  • Patent number: 6495637
Abstract: A formulation to produce urethane linkages reacts cyclocarbonate groups with diamines. Aliphatic polyhydroxyl precursor molecules are first epoxidized. The invention does not require complete epoxidation, as it makes use of the un-epoxidized hydroxyl groups of the precursor molecule. These hydroxyl groups are combined with isocyanate groups of prepolymer molecules to form urethane links. The use of prepolymers increases the networking, flexibility, and impact-resistance of the final product. The known formulations for amine hardeners also require complete carbonation of the epoxy groups to form reactive cyclocarbonate groups, which are reacted with diamines to form an amine hardener. In the proposed invention, both cyclocarbonate and epoxy groups are used to combine with the different diamine molecules by making use of the different reactivities of aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, and aromatic amine groups.

Abstract: A two component polyurethane clear coat for use with golf balls includes a polyol component and a polyisocyanate component. The polyol component includes a polyester polyol resin containing a neopentyl glycol resin. A mixture of silane and aziridine is also preferably included in the polyol component. The polyisocynanate component includes a mixture of an isocyanate trimer of hexamethylene diisocyanate and a biuret of hexamethylene diisocyanate. The polyol and polyisocyanate components preferably include two solvents forming a blend selected from the group of ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, propyleneglycolmonomethylether acetate, toluene and xylene. The coating may be applied directly to golf ball covers with a variety of chemistries without the need of a primer or basecoat. The clear coat provides superior adhesion and abrasion resistance in addition to improving the drying and curing characteristics.

  • Patent number: 6359023
Abstract: Described is an NCO-group-containing polyurethane prepolymer madefrom polyisocanyates and polyols derived from natural oils. The invention is characterized in that the polyol is obtained by transesterification in the presence of basic lithium compounds. Together with a tertiary amine used to accelerate the moisture curing, the storage stability is thus increased considerably. Up to 4.0 mmol of the lithium compound is used per kilogram of polyol, and 0.1 to 2.0% by wt. of the amine, relative to the total weight of the composition, is used as the accelerator. The polyurethane prepolymer is suitable not only for the production of adhesives but also for the production of foamed materials, in particular those dispensed from throw-away pressure vessels.
