  • Patent number: 5129208
Abstract: A bale wrapping apparatus for a baler for large round bales. A rolled web of bale wrapping material is mounted at the rear of the baler. A pair of adjacent feed rollers frictionally grip a free end portion of the web. One or more web feeding belts are in driving engagement with at least one bale-forming belt of the baler. The web feeding belts power a control mechanism for the feed rollers. When a bale is formed in the baler, the feed rollers pull wrapping material off the roll and deposit it on the web feeding belts which carry it into the baling chamber where it is wrapped around the bale. A knife is actuated near the end of the wrapping to separate the web. A conventional twine-tie mechanism can be operated simultaneously with the bale wrapping apparatus and after the web has been separated so as to further secure the wrapping material about the bale.

Abstract: A wrap holder having closable jaws is positioned on a rotatable bale platform beneath a wrap dispenser on a stationary support frame. Rotation of the platform and/or bale will cause the bale to be wrapped. Upon completion of the wrapping the platform is raised allowing the wrap holder to reengage the wrap between the bale and the wrap dispenser. Continued tilting of the platform causes the bale to roll off onto the ground severing the wrap while leaving it attached to the wrap holder. The platform is lowered and is now ready for receiving another bale and the wrapping process is repeated without the operator leaving the prime mover.

  • Patent number: 5048264
Abstract: The present invention involves methods and apparatus for winding imbricated formations of multi-sheeted, twice-folded printing products into a roll together with a winding band wherein the individual multi-sheeted, twice-folded printing products are skewed in relation to the conveying direction of the imbricated formation by a small angle. The laterally protruding corners of the printing products lie on imaginary straight lines which run parallel to the conveying direction. The lateral fold edges of the printing products are mutually offset by a certain amount in a direction running transversely to the conveying direction. The lateral fold edges therefore do not end up one on top of the other during winding, as a result of which a thickening on one side of the roll is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4998961
Abstract: The baler has a twine monitoring assembly which generates a pulsating signal in response to twine being dispensed during bale wrapping operations. The twine is wrapped around the periphery of a monitor wheel and, during dispensing, the twine rotationally drives the wheel. As the wheel rotates, a magnet affixed to the wheel at a location adjacent the periphery thereof, travels past a stationary, magnetically operated, normally open switch thereby briefly closing the switch and temporarily turning on an indicator light until the magnet moves sufficiently far enough away from the switch. An overcenter linkage is connected to the mechanism mounting the pinch rollers to affect a movement of the pinch rollers between engaged and disengaged positions for selectively permitting the threading of net between the pinch rollers and the feed roll. One embodiment has both pinch rollers mounted on a pivot arm which is pivitally mounted on an eccentric to permit an adjustment of the position of the pinch rollers relative to the feed roller.

  • Patent number: 4779526
Abstract: A baling machine for forming large cylindrical bales of hay has a variable volume baling chamber defined by moving belts with a crop inlet on the underside of the machine. When a bale has been completed it is wrapped with surface wrapping material stored in a holder on the back of the baler. The wrapping material is advanced by feed rolls through a cutting mechanism below the holder, and is thus guided by a plate extending along the underside of a run of the belts to the baling chamber. In order to avoid wasting wrap, a cutter is triggered by a peg carried by a metering wheel movable between an adjustable "home" position against an abutment or stop to a trigger position in which it engages and lifts a release lever to release the cutter, and this distance is a measure of the length of wrap material required for the completed bale. In respective embodiments, the metering wheel is in the form of a friction wheel, a worm wheel and a ratchet wheel with all wheels being selectively driven by one of the feed rolls.

  • Patent number: 4775111
Abstract: For winding-up printed products delivered in imbricated formation a winding core or mandrel or, as the case may be, the wound product package being formed thereupon is driven at its outer surface or circumference by a first drive arrangement. This first drive arrangement comprises a drive roll which engages at a winding band or strap which is wound upon the winding core or, as the case may be, the formed wound product package. By means of a second or further drive arrangement the winding band spool or reel which supplies the winding band or strap is likewise driven at its outer surface or circumference. The circumferential velocity of the winding band spool is maintained somewhat smaller than the circumferential velocity of the wound product package in order to apply tension to the winding band or strap. Both of the drive arrangements are driven by a common drive motor without the need for incorporating slip clutches, winding transmissions or gearing units and the like.

Abstract: The printed products arriving in an imbricated formation are wound up into wound product packages or coils each having a substantially horizontally disposed longitudinal axis. These wound products packages possess a predetermined size and an inherent stability which permit them to be transported and intermediately stored such that their longitudinal axes extend substantially vertically without the wound product packages disintegrating or unraveling. After forming the wound product packages they are transferred from a standing position into a reclining or reposing position by means of a package turning device. In this reclining or reposing position the longitudinal axes of the wound product packages extend substantially vertically. These wound product packages are supported only at their circumference or are only held at their winding cores and are not supported in any further manner.

Abstract: The winding core mounted to be rotatable and removable in a mobile storage unit, is placed into rotation by means of a drive roll which engages at the outer surface or circumference of the widing core or, as the case may be, the wound product package forming thereupon. In the mobile storage unit there is likewise removably arranged a winding band spool or reel which is also driven at its outer surface or circumference. For this purpose there is likewise provided a driven drive roll. By virtue of such circumferential drives for the winding core and, as the case may be, the wound product package, and equally the winding band spool or reel the mobile storage units can be of simple construction. This also enables the mounting or support arrangement for the winding core and the mounting or support arrangement for the winding band spool or reel to be structured such that the winding core and the winding band spool can be easily removed from the related mobile storage unit.

  • Patent number: 4709869
Abstract: An apparatus and method of storing sheets of film-like material has a substrate which is wound and unwound from two rollers. An exposed portion of the substrate extends between the two rollers. A sheet to be stored is placed on the exposed portion of the substrate. The substrate is then further wound onto one of the rollers and unwound from the other roller. A counter determines the portion of the substrate upon which the sheet is stored by counting the revolutions of a counting roller and accumulating a storage count. To retrieve a stored sheet, the substrate is unwound from the roller upon which it was wound when the sheet was stored until the portion of the substrate upon which the stored sheet was placed is exposed. A counter counts the revolutions of the counting roller and causes the unwinding to cease when the storage count determined when the sheet was stored is reached. A bed is urged upwardly against the rollers to maintain tension on the substrate as it is wound and unwound.
