Abstract: Disclosed is a method for arranging an edge-protection device on a package. For this purpose, an arranging device is moved from a starting position in the direction of the package. The package edge is sensed by way of a first or a second sensor. Which sensor is to be used is determined by a controller. To this end, the latter checks whether one of the sensors is arranged above the package top side. Also disclosed is an arranging device, which is used in the abovementioned method.

Abstract: A method of packaging easel includes attaching an easel packaging fixture to a rotatable turntable of a stretch wrapping apparatus that includes a tower and a carriage movable along the tower. An easel bundle is positioned on the easel packaging fixture. Each easel bundle includes one or more easels with a lower portion inserted into a bottom cap and an upper portion inserted into a top cap. The turntable is rotated, causing rotation of the easel packaging fixture and the easel bundle with respect to the stretch wrapping apparatus. As the easel packaging fixture rotates, a wrapping material from the carriage of the stretch wrapping apparatus wraps around the easel bundle. The carriage moves along the length of the tower to wrap a length of the easel bundle.

Abstract: A method and a system for setting corner protectors on a load. In operation of one embodiment, an actuator retrieves a two corner protectors from a corner protector storage and provides the corner protectors to a corner protector transferring and setting system. The corner protector transferring and setting system transfers the corner protectors to a side of the load furthest from the actuator and sets the corner protectors against the two adjacent vertically extending corners of that side of the load. The actuator retrieves another two corner protectors from the corner protector storage and sets the two corner protectors against the two vertically extending corners of a side of the load closest to the actuator. A wrapping machine then wraps a film around the corner protectors and the load, thereby securing the corner protectors in place.

Abstract: A corner post application system comprises a conveyor subsystem and an enveloping machine adapted to envelope the plurality of units with a material. The system further includes a swing arm, an applicator arm coupled to the swing arm and adapted to move linearly, a corner post gripper coupled to the applicator arm, and a controller. The controller rotates the swing arm about a vertical axis until a corner post held by the corner post gripper is aligned with adjacent sides that define a corner of the load. The controller thereafter stops rotation of the swing arm and moves the applicator arm linearly toward the corner of the load until the corner post held by the corner post gripper contacts the adjacent sides of the load. A sensor may be included for detecting a corner of the load, with the controller aligning the corner post based on detection by the sensor.

Abstract: A stretch film wrapping system for wrapping film about palletized loads includes a wrapping station for wrapping stretch film about a palletized load. A corner protector placement station is located upstream of the wrapping station along a path of a conveying system leading from the corner protector placement station to the wrapping station. Corner protectors are applied to the corner edges of a palletized load at the corner protector placement station, prior to delivering the palletized load to the wrapping station. The corner protector placement station may include a pair of robotic arms that pick corner protectors, position them for application of an adhesive and then apply the protectors to the corner edges of the palletized load.

Abstract: A method and system are described for providing supports for multiple rows of stacked goods with edge protectors that can be separated at predetermined zones to allow one row of stacked goods to be readily separated from another row. Also described are separable edge protectors for use with the method and system. Also described is a method and system for providing customized packaging adapted for specific goods.

Abstract: Described is an apparatus and method for applying to a palletized load protective corner elements having first and second sides designed to protect contiguous sides of at least one corner of the load. The apparatus comprises a transfer system for conveying at least one corner element from an initial position to a position where the sides of the corner element are close to the corresponding edges of the corner to be protected, this transfer system comprising an actuating system for transferring the corner element by a rotational movement through predetermined angles ? and ? from the initial position to a position where at least a first side of the corner element is substantially aligned with a first side of the corner of the load.

Abstract: A system for applying loading ledges onto a unit load positioned on supporting means. The system comprises an application machine. The system also comprises means for separating the unit load from the supporting means in the vertical direction. The system also comprises means for applying one or more loading ledges to two or more opposite, lower edges of the unit load when separated from the supporting means.

Abstract: A strapping machine includes a frame, a vertically movable upper carriage, a strap chute including an upper leg mounted to the movable upper carriage, a pair of spaced apart compression plates mounted to the movable upper carriage for vertically compressing the load and a pair of side squaring elements movable toward and away from one another configured figured for horizontal movement to contact the sides of the load. The side squaring elements are disposed between the compression plates. The machine is controlled by a control system such that following a first strapping cycle and prior to a second strapping cycle the control system generates a signal to raise the compression plates from the load about 3 inches and a to move the side squaring elements away from the load about 3 inches. The machine includes a corner pad applicator assemblies for applying a corner pad at each of the upper corners of the load prior to positioning, tensioning and sealing the strapping material to itself about the load.

Abstract: Apparatus for placing external corner protectors upon the external corner regions of palletized loads, prior to the wrapping of the palletized loads within wrapping material, comprises four corner protector pickup, transfer, and applicator mechanisms respectively disposed adjacent to the four corner regions of the palletized load, wherein the corner protector pickup, transfer, and applicator mechanisms are movable independently of the external corner protector magazine assemblies. The external corner protector pickup, transfer, and applicator mechanisms are rotatably mounted upon rotatable actuators which are rotatably movable through angular movements comprising 270°, and, in turn, the rotary actuators are mounted upon linearly movable mechanisms which are movable in both X and Y directions.

Bending motion of corner protector cover flap sections upward from the plane of the preform is limited by contact of the flap sections with edges of the template plate to perpendicular positions relative to the plane of the preform, thus assuring that channel-shaped protective covers for sides of the frames formed by subsequent inwardly and downwardly bending of upper end portions of the flap sections to overlie a face surface of the frame will have rectangular cross sections, even if the sides of the frame are non-rectangular, e.g., angled or contoured.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a shipping container for holding an object has a base for receiving the article is described. A plurality of corner posts is affixed to the base. Each post has a first end affixed to a portion of the base and a second, opposed end in a spaced apart relationship to the base. A flexible material is positioned over the base and corner posts. The flexible material is capable of being removed from the base and corner posts without being torn or destroyed. The object is positioned in a shipping container by positioning the object on the base and positioning the posts adjacent corners of the object. The base with the corner posts affixed thereto is placed in a flexible material having an open end and a closed end. A removable top is secured to the corner posts.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a shipping container for holding an object has a base for receiving the article is described. A plurality of corner posts is affixed to the base. Each post has a first end affixed to a portion of the base and a second, opposed end in a spaced apart relationship to the base. A flexible material is positioned over the base and corner posts. The flexible material is capable of being removed from the base and corner posts without being torn or destroyed. In the arresting position (A), the separating tab is between the foremost corner protector (41) in the file and the second corner protector (42) next in the file so as to arrest the file of corner protectors while the gate (11) is in the open position (II).

Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically installing in tandem pairs of protective covers to adjacent corners of a rectangular picture frame, to protect the corner during shipment, includes a pair, e.g., right and left of substantially identical corner protector installation mechanisms oriented at ninety degrees with respect to one another and mounted on a supporting frame laterally spaced apart at a distance adjustable to accommodate frames of various widths. Abstract: Apparatus and method for placing corner protectors upon corner regions of loads or articles to be wrapped, banded, or otherwise packaged comprises a plurality of corner protector magazines and operatively associated corner protector pick-up arm and transfer assemblies which are divided into two groups of diagonally opposed magazines and pick-up arm and transfer assemblies wherein the two groups of magazines respectively house corner protectors having two different height dimensions. Depending upon the sensed height dimensions of the loads or articles, one of the two groups of magazines and pick-up arm and transfer assemblies are selectively activated so as to place the proper dimensioned corner protectors upon corner regions of the loads or articles.
