A fixed top plate extends above the intake portion of the platen, and is provided with steps formed in complementary fashion to the platen steps to retain the cut strips therebetween. The strips are moved longitudinally along their respective steps to a collection portion of the platen. A movable top plate disposed above the collection portion translates longitudinally to expose the strips on the collection portion.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1997Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Assignee: Kinematic Automation, Inc.Inventors: David L. Patent number: 5636498Abstract: A bulk straw loading system includes one or more bulk straw staging members having a plurality of compartments which receive, organize and store straws. The straws are detected and counted as they are received. A bulk straw staging member compartment opening temporary closure device insures that at least two compartments full of straws can be stored in a bulk straw staging member prior to being unloaded to a bulk straw transport device. A bulk straw transport device provides the straws to a bulk straw packager such as a boxer or bagger. A bulk straw loading system controller utilizes straw manufacturing speed information from a straw extruder, cutter or wrapper and combined with straw count information, effectuates rotation of each bulk straw staging member as appropriate.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1995Date of Patent: June 10, 1997Assignee: George Gordon Associates, Inc.Inventors: Donald R. Patent number: 5575712Abstract: The present invention refers to a device for a machine for handling of sausage between a sausage feeder and a delivering device for sausage to a package with a conveyor operating between the feeder and the delivering device. According to the invention a number of flaps are located above the conveyor divided by carriers into compartments. The flaps are arranged to extend substantially in line with passing carrier and forming an extension of the same. The functions of the flaps is to act on sausage to be directed in said compartment before delivering of the sausage to packing.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1995Date of Patent: November 19, 1996Inventor: Lars Krewer

Patent number: 5471820Abstract: Digital tampons carrying strings are surrounded in tubular envelopes while being confined in and advancing with upright cylindrical carriers. The envelopes are formed around the carriers so that their lower ends extend beyond the lower ends of the respective carriers. The lower ends of successive envelopes are closed by providing them with at least partially overlapping panels. Prior to being separated from the respective carriers, the closed ends of the envelopes are deformed by heated profiled tools which provide the outer sides of the closed ends with centrally located recesses surrounded by smooth ring-shaped portions. The strings are automatically curled along the marginal portions at the upper sides of the respective closed ends in response to downward movement of the tampons in their carriers not later than in the course of the deforming step.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1994Date of Patent: December 5, 1995Assignee: Hauni Richmond, Inc.Inventors: Hans-Joachim Oppe, Alfred Hinzmann, Peter M.
