Spaced From Cover During Heating Or Cooling Patents (Class 53/373.8)
  • Publication number: 20100313526
Abstract: A system for controlling the strength of seals imparted to workpiece layers by a sealing roll and an anvil roll, the sealing roll and the anvil roll arranged on opposing sides of a conveyed web of workpiece layers, heating elements provided on at least one of the rolls, temperature sensors provided on the at least one of the rolls, and a controller in communication with the sensors and in operable communication with the heating elements. The sealing roll includes a textured sealing surface, the textured sealing surface being divided into a plurality of regions, the texture of a first of the regions being different from a texture of a second of the regions. By controlling the temperature of the respective regions, detrimental effects of anvil wear on the strength of the seal imparted to the workpiece layers may be offset, increasing the service life of rolls.

  • Publication number: 20100242412
Abstract: Cigarette packs of the hinge-lid-box type with an outer wrapping of shrinkable film are transported through a shrinkage station (22) in two pack rows (26, 27), in each case comprising individual packs. In the region of said shrinkage station, shrinkage elements, namely heating plates (24, 25; 45, 46), subject the upper side and/or lower side of the packs (10), during a standstill phase of the same, to (contact) heat. The packs (10) are transported such that the lower side and the upper side are simultaneously or consecutively exposed for contact by the heating plates.

  • Patent number: 7308780
Abstract: An apparatus for sealing longitudinal overlapping edges of tubular thermoplastic film. The apparatus comprises a fixed block (31) for guiding and holding the overlapping edges and a sealing head (6) spaced from the fixed block for directing jets of hot air onto the overlapping edges of the film guided on the fixed block. The sealing head (6) is movably mounted such that the sealing head is positioned a short distance from the film as the film is advancing and the sealing head is withdrawn from the film when the film is stop.

  • Patent number: 6789371
Abstract: A packaging machine including a seal bar assembly for bonding layers of polymeric material together about a wrapped product to form an airtight package seal comprises a length of SILVERSTONE encapsulated, flat electrical resistance heating ribbon disposed upon a rigid seal bar having a smooth face surface. The seal bar is preferably constructed of thermally conductive and electrically insulating materials, such as virgin TEFLON. The heating ribbon is mounted onto the seal bar under nearly constant tension throughout its temperature range. Low resistance electrical leads provide a path for supplying electricity to the heating ribbon. A silicon rubber-backed seal bar mating assembly for providing pressure to the polymeric materials during bonding is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6775472
Abstract: A radiant energy device for shrinking a thin film onto an open top of a container, the radiant energy device comprising: a source of power, to provide power to the radiant energy device; a plurality of fixed energy-emitting units, each of the units when energized being configured to emit radiant energy towards the shrinking film on said open top of the container; and a switching means, operatively connected between the source of power and each of the energy-emitting units, to independently activate at least two groups of the energy-emitting units; wherein, a first group of the energy-emitting units partially shrinks the thin film onto the container, and a second group finishes the shrinking.

  • Patent number: 6708465
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for wrapping a plurality of soft elements, comprising the steps of stacking the elements, compressing the stack in a direction of stacking, and thus forming a package, inserting in a feeding direction the package into a film, preferably a plastic film, which at least partly consists of a thermoplastic material and which in an at least partly overlapping manner surrounds the package, sealing the film in the feeding direction, and cutting and optionally sealing the film transversely of the feeding direction. The method is characterised in that the step of sealing the film in the feeding direction is carried out by supplying from a nozzle towards the film a pressurised heated gas towards the portions of the film that overlap each other, so that they change into an at least partly molten state and are joined. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the method.

  • Patent number: 6604342
Abstract: A method and apparatus for packaging articles in card and blister packages is disclosed, the card and blister package comprising a first or blister piece of clear pre-formed plastic with a shaped cavity for receiving small articles, and a flat flange portion along its perimeter. The second piece of the package is a flat rectangular chipboard card, appreciably larger than the card and blister piece and having printing on one or both sides. The flange of the card and blister piece can be bonded to the surface of a card to form a card and blister package for the enclosed articles. Apparatus for producing a plurality of packaged articles includes a plurality of package holders mounted on the surface of a conveyor belt that is porous to UV light, the holders made of a UV light transparent material and having upper surfaces with shaped recesses for removably supporting the plastic card and blister pieces with their cavities upwardly faced and for supporting the cards in position above the card and blister pieces.

  • Patent number: 6387209
Abstract: An apparatus for sealing films together along a path includes a sealing shoe and a counter shoe defining a clearance through which the films pass. The sealing shoe includes an elongated optical energy source having a length dimension oriented generally parallel to the sealing path; a reflector for focussing light emitted by the energy source; a window transparent to the light and having an outer surface adapted to be oriented toward the counter shoe for sealing the films by the light; and a firing arrangement for activating the energy source. The window and the counter shoe are urged toward one another.
