With Means To Heat Or Cool Seam Patents (Class 53/375.9)
  • Patent number: 6526729
Abstract: A method and device for treating plastic film, according to which method plastic film web used as packaging material is wrapped around the object to be packaged. According to the method, the plastic film layers are seamed together and the plastic film web is cut off by heating the seaming point and cutting-off point by means of a heat radiator. Heat-absorbent counterpieces are preferably placed at both the seaming point and the cutting-off point, the said counterpieces being heated through the plastic layers. When the counterpieces absorb heat from the heating radiator, they heat up and at the same time heat the plastic films to be seamed and cut off. In the most advantageous embodiment, the infrared heat radiator is placed inside a tubular gripping counterpiece, which gripping counterpiece comprises slots through which the heat radiation is able to pass to the counterpieces.

Abstract: A heat sealing device for sealing layers of plastic film together is provided. In a preferred embodiment, the heat sealing device is incorporated into a stretch wrapping apparatus for wrapping a load. The heat sealing device includes a heater element, an air compressor or blower, and a sealing head in fluid communication with the heater element to distribute the heated air. The sealing head is preferably flexible and includes a plurality of convection ports configured to apply heated air to a portion of the packaging material without being completely covered by the packaging material. At least one insulated film contact portion is provided to distance the convection ports from the plastic film.

  • Patent number: 6408596
Abstract: In order to reduce the technical input for a device for packaging, for example a horizontal bagging machine, it is suggested to provide two sealing jaws which act against one another and weld a foil web, only one sealing jaw for a rotating operation. The second sealing jaw is co-moved along a path with the first sealing jaw in transport direction of the foil path and is moved back in opposite direction of the foil web. The second sealing jaw is fastened on a carriage which is moved along a horizontal rail, and a carrier connection transfers the component of the rotation motion of the first sealing jaw onto the second sealing jaw, which component extends in the foil transport direction.

  • Patent number: 6301859
Abstract: A heat sealer capable of providing a high sealing strength by appropriating a distribution of temperature at two sheet contact faces (19a, 19b) includes a block (31) made of a metallic material having a high rigidity and operable to heat the resinous sheet (S) while pressing the latter. The block (31) is provided with heaters (24a, 24b) therein and also with heat conducting members (33a, 33b) each having an excellent heat conductive characteristic higher than that of the metallic material. The heat conducting members (33a, 33b) are positioned between the heaters (24a, 24b) and the sheet contact faces (19a, 19b), respectively.

  • Patent number: 6216420
Abstract: The device (1) for heat sealing a tube (3) of packaging sheet material filled with a pourable food product, has first and second jaws (8, 9) movable towards each other to grip the tube (3) under pressure and heat seal the tube. The first jaw (8) has a heating element (14) having a pair of substantially straight active surfaces (17), which extend on opposite sides of and parallel to an intermediate plane (&pgr;). The second jaw (9) has a pair of pressure pads (22), which are housed in respective seats (23) and cooperate with the active surfaces (17) of the heating element (14). Each of the pads has a first longitudinal portion (24) supported rigidly in a seat (23), and a second longitudinal portion (25) supported pliably in the seat (23) and located adjacent to and on the opposite side of the first longitudinal portion (24) with respect to the intermediate plane (&pgr;).
