Abstract: Knitted netting is applied to products in a machine. A chute receives products serially through a receiving end, as from a conveyor, and discharges them serially into netting preferably rucked on the chute. As each product arrives at the product receiver, voiders operate to form a rope section of the netting behind the product, at the chute's discharge end. The clipper also clips the netting, to complete the netting of the product, and clips to create the starting end of the next netted product. A netting handle former operates to loop the rope section behind the product, before clipping, to form a looped handle for a product in the rope section of the netting. The netting that is clipped behind the products is the netting formed into the loops, and thus, the clips that are put on by the clipper secure the loops in their size and condition.

  • Patent number: 5444962
Abstract: A method for loading and closing containers with flexible open ends employs a chute with an inflatable bladder at the open end, and an elastic closure device. A flexible open end of the container is placed around the end of the chute and the inflatable bladder. The elastic closure device is placed around the open end of the container. The bladder is inflated to secure the container to the chute. Material is delivered into the container through the chute. When a specified quantity of material is loaded into the container, the bladder is deflated causing the container to slide off the chute. When the container slides off the chute, the elastic closure device contracts and closes the flexible open end of container by constricting the size of the flexible open end of the container such that material will not fall out during shipment.

Abstract: A tin-tie bending device for bending the ends of a tin-tie about the edges of a bag wherein the tin-tie is secured to across the width of the bag and the ends of the tin-tie extend beyond the edges of the bag prior to bending. The device includes means for moving the bag along a travel path past a detecting means and a bending means of the device. The detecting means detects the bag as it travels past the detecting means. The bending means bends the end of the tin-tie about the edge of the bag and is actuated upon the detecting means sensing the passing of the bag along the bag travel path.

Abstract: An improved method for packaging utilizes the two-spaced clippers for simultaneously attaching the first and second U-shaped metal clips to gathered packaging material. Prior to attachment of the clips, the tail end of the packaging material is wrapped around a movable sleeve or post which is extended to effect tight packing of the contents of packaging material. The movable post is then released after attachment of the clips. With the invention, it is possible to form a loop or handle using the same material that is used for packaging of a product. Additionally, the construction and method reduces the likelihood of the operator developing carpal tunnel syndrome.
