  • Patent number: 7487625
Abstract: A method for packaging a good by means of a package formed of a shrinkable lower film 7 and an upper film 10 is provided. The lower film may be deep-drawn to form a container for accommodating the good, and after filling in the good, an upper film may be supplied for covering. The such-formed package is sealed and then may be subjected to shrinking in an evacuating and sealing station. Consecutively to the evacuating and sealing, an additional shrinking may be performed by subjecting the package to heat from all sides, so as to remove the film section having developed between the part of the lower and the upper film directly resting against the good and the sealing rim 16. A corresponding device for executing the method is indicated.

  • Patent number: 7478512
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process used for packaging a product in a web of material that has a zipper attached thereto. The process includes providing a web of material having first and second edges and a zipper including first and second interlocking members. The first and second interlocking members of the zipper are interlocked together. The first interlocking member of the zipper is attached to the web at an intermediate portion of the web between the first and second edges of the web. The second interlocking member has an attachment region that is facing away from the web. One edge of the web is folded away from the zipper and toward the other edge of the web. Unit operations are performed on the zipper to create zipper segments from the zipper while the zipper is exposed. Each of the zipper segments is associated with an individual food package made from the web.

Abstract: The invention is specially directed towards intermittent motion packaging machines where the packages are momentarily immobilized at a forming station for the time duration of the package sealing and cutting. The polymeric sheets or films are sealed and cut after being exposed to a laser beam in a controlled and optimized manner. The laser beam is shaped with appropriate optical elements to provide a desired intensity profile in the section of the films to be sealed or sealed and cut. With this method, a package can be sealed and cut simultaneously in one exposure step. An optical clamp holds the films together while they are being sealed by the laser. The optical clamp can reflect back to the films, partially or totally, the laser beam intensity that has not been previously absorbed. The optical clamp further allows to monitor the sealing and cutting process while the process is being performed.

Abstract: An apparatus for making inflated articles from a film web having two juxtaposed film plies. One version of the apparatus generally includes a first rotary sealing device for producing transverse seals that bond the film plies together, an inflation assembly for directing gas between the film plies, and a second rotary sealing device for producing a longitudinal seal between the film plies. The longitudinal seal intersects the transverse seals so that the gas is enclosed between the longitudinal seal, transverse seals, and film plies to thereby form an inflated article.

Abstract: The vertical form fill and seal (VFFS) machine is configured to place a fitment, such as a spout, on the longitudinal fin seal of a container. The fitment dispatched from a vibratory bowl via an adjustable track. The fitment is then secured to the edges of the film by longitudinal sealing bars and the edges of the film are likewise secured to each other by the longitudinal sealing bars sealing bars thereby forming a longitudinal fin seal. Depressions are machined in the machine direction center of the sealing bars in order to accommodate the shape of the fitment. The film is drawn over an oversized collar and an undersized tube so as to create excess film in order to form gussets providing a stand-alone capability.

Abstract: A system and process for packaging groups of products, such as spirally wound paper products are disclosed. During the packaging of groups, a continuous supply of a wrapping material is unwound and cut periodically in the edge regions. Optionally, a perforation line may also be formed into the wrapping material in between the two cut edges. The cut edges form flaps that are then wrapped around the product groups and sealed. The wrapping material is then broken along the perforation lines in order to form individual packages. Finally, the ends of the packages are folded and sealed.

Abstract: A packaging process line that compacts rolled products as they are packaged is disclosed. A firmness measuring device is used to measure the firmness of the rolls as the rolls, for instance, enter the process line. The roll firmness device is placed in communication with a controller, such as a microprocessor. The microprocessor is configured to receive information from the roll firmness device and control one or more elements within the process line that apply a compressive force to the rolls. In particular, the controller is configured to adjust any packaging equipment that applies a compressive force to the rolls so that a substantially uniform amount of force is applied to the rolls throughout the system. In this manner, the system is capable of automatically making adjustments based upon any variation in the product. Misfeeds, miscounts and the like are minimized for improving process efficiency and minimizing process downtime.
