  • Patent number: 4481751
Abstract: A method for the stacking of bags received from a bag making machine which includes providing for the orientated transportation of hands of bag to a stack elevator which in conjunction with pusher means positions the hands of bags to form two or more adjacently positioned stacks of bags in an end to end but spaced relationship. The adjacent stacks are wrapped in a wrapping material to form a bale having provided therein a tear zone which allows for the ready separation of the stacks in pouches by the application of a force thereon with said wrapping material maintaining the integrity of the separate stacks.

  • Patent number: 4443995
Abstract: This relates to a metering device particularly adapted for separating articles being conveyed in end-to-end relation and in side-by-side rows into sets of transversely aligned articles with adjacent sets of articles being displaced in a direction transversely to the direction of movement of the articles so as to provide for the metering or separation of the articles of adjacent sets. To this end there is provided a metering device which includes a pair of endless conveyors having opposed runs and each endless conveyor including first and second sets of article supports or carriers with one set of such article supports or carriers of each conveyor being transversely offset and the article supports or carriers being of the same length in a longitudinal direction as the length of the articles or a unit multiple of such articles. The transverse offsetting of articles of longitudinally adjacent sets serves to automatically transverse the aligned articles of each set.

  • Patent number: 4424658
Abstract: Double packages with two trays which are formed from a common, one-piece blank and are connected in the area of central partitions (center panels), are manufactured such that the trays, which in the original position as a flat blank have a greater distance from each other, are pushed together while raising the connected center panels in the shape of a V. Subsequent to this are further folding steps for side and outer panels. This manufacturing process, including filling and folding can take place in stages while standing still in individual stations, or alternatively, in a continuous process.

  • Patent number: 4408439
Abstract: The method provides a loose wrap on an article. A sheet of thin, flexible wrapping material is positioned around the article. A projecting flexible excess portion is formed as an outwardly projecting bubble in the wrapping material that is positioned around the article. The wrapping material is then sealed around the article while the bubble portion is maintained in the wrapping material. The apparatus comprises various mechanisms for effecting the method steps. The assembly is particularly useful in a wrapping machine. The combination used in conjunction with a wrapping machine includes a pocket mechanism for holding the article having the thin, flexible material wrapped therearound. The projecting bubble portion is formed by an assembly disposed adjacent the pocket mechanism. The pocket mechanism includes a side wall member having an indentation to receive the projecting bubble portion formed in the wrapping material.

  • Patent number: 4388796
Abstract: The disclosure concerns an apparatus and method for wrapping products in stretch film by placing each product on a product support table having collapsible fingers. A pivotable frame is loaded with successive lengths of stretch film and pivoted down over each product placed on the support table. Tucking blades mounted on the frame tuck the side edges of the film under the product, while infeed and outfeed rollers tuck the front and back edges under the product. Pusher means then advance the product onto the outfeed conveyor to complete the front tuck and seal the film beneath the product.

  • Patent number: 4366021
Abstract: A device for applying a tape around one or more objects, in which first a pe consisting of two tapes welded together is passed in U-shaped fashion around the object or objects, thereafter the two tape portions extending beyond the object or objects are moved towards one another by means of movable tape strainers; thereupon one tape portion is melted through, bent over and superficially melted by a heating element forming part of a tape bending-over member; then the other tape portion is melted through to form tape end portions and superficially melted by said heating element and finally the latter tape end portions are bent over and welded to the former tape end portions in pairs by a second tape bending-over member; the two bending-over members so co-operating as to make the two weld joints between the respective tape end portions to lie in the plane of tape of which they form part.

  • Patent number: 4322931
Abstract: A method of manufacturing cigarette packages from a foil wrapping which surrounds the block of cigarettes on all sides and from a printed paper wrapper, which is closed at one end by means of a bottom fold. In order to be able to work the foil covering and the wrapper on a single folding device, at least one tab is produced on the foil blank by two incisions in the region of the subsequent bottom fold and the tab is bent over approximately at right angles. Thereupon, the foil blank and the wrapper blank are brought together and connected together in such a manner that the edges of the two blanks approximately coincide on three sides while on the fourth side the foil blank protrudes beyond the wrapper blank. The interconnected blanks are folded on a folding mandrel around the long and wide sides thereof and are glued together, overlapping, on at least one long or wide side before finally the bottom fold is produced by folding the flaps onto the tab which lies against the bottom of the folding mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4319443
Abstract: A machine in which a wrapping film extends across a path in which articles to be packaged are moved. The film is drawn from supply rolls above and below the path as an article or group of articles is moved along the path. The film is brought together and sealed behind the article or group of articles to form a tube, the tube is severed from the remaining film, and the remaining film is sealed together. The tube is then thermally shrunk. A cutting and sealing bar movable along a path inclined at an acute angle with the conveying path in part wraps the film about the article or group of articles, and severs and seals the film. An upright frame carries and guides the cutting and sealing bar and is adjustable about a pivot in the plane of the conveying path to vary the angle at which the cutting and sealing bar moves with respect to the conveying path. A film supply roll is carried by the frame so the path of the film from the supply roll relative to the frame is independent of the frame adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4279116
Abstract: Method of and apparatus for wrapping reams of paper or the like in which the ream being wrapped is placed on an elevator mechanism at a lower level and raised by the elevator mechanism to an upper level. The elevator mechanism comprises a central support and two outboard supports extending endwise of the ream. The outboard supports are movable inwardly from an outer position wherein they are spaced outwardly from the central support. The outboard supports occupy their outer position as the ream is placed on the supports and while the ream is being raised. As the ream is raised, it engages a wrapper sheet and portions of the wrapper sheet fold down on the sides of the ream. When the ream is raised, underfolders move in under the ream from opposite sides of the ream to fold portions of the sheet in under the bottom of the ream.

  • Patent number: 4198258
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for the application of elongated labels to front end faces and adjacent lateral surfaces of cigarette packs which are transported at intervals through an elongated folding duct. The duct is mounted in a rotary barrel having openings for label carriers which accept labels during travel past a magazine and thereupon place the labels across the inlet of the duct prior to being moved out of the way so that the front end face of an oncoming pack adheres to the central portion of a label which extends across the inlet and the pack pushes such label against the rear end face of the preceding pack while the duct automatically folds the end portions of the label over the adjacent lateral surfaces of the respective pack. Patches of adhesive are applied to successive labels during travel with the corresponding carriers from the magazine toward the inlet of the folding duct.

  • Patent number: 4148170
Abstract: A high speed, automatic machine for wrapping elongate semi-rigid products such as spaghetti. The machine includes means for cutting and positioning two sheets of wrapping material during a single portion period of the machine into two tandem buckets mounted on a conveyor. The machine also includes two high speed product weighers that deposit weighted amounts of the product onto the two sheets in the two buckets. The weighers operate in duplex and each fills a bucket during a single period of pause in the motion of the machine. After filling each bucket the wrapping machine has means for folding the leading and trailing margins of the two sheets of wrapping material. The two sheets are folded during a single motion period of the machine. The two folded sheets are then simultaneously heated sealed by two, tandem wrapper sealers. Each wrapper sealer makes a complete longitudinal seal for each package during one period of pause in the motion of the machine.
