Publication number: 20150131926Abstract: Resealable systems for consumer packaging, such as food packaging, are described herein. The system includes one or more anchor points and one or more cling coatings. The anchor points can be introduced into or onto the packaging material during manufacture, such as by co-extrusion. Alternatively, the anchor points can be affixed to the packaging material after manufacture, such as with a pressure sensitive adhesive. The cling coatings can be applied to the packaging material during or after manufacture. For example, the cling coatings can be spot coated or pattern coated onto the desired location. The cling coatings are selective, that is they do not attach to themselves but only attach to the anchor point. The cling coatings transfer little or no material over time resulting in more consistent performance over time than pressure sensitive adhesives.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 12, 2014Publication date: May 14, 2015Inventors: Benjamin D. Patent number: 4617782Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for wrapping batches of products, in particular candies, and for forming sealed packets, which envisages: a batch of products being supplied to a wrapping wheel; a sheet of heat-sealing material with two lateral downward turned borders being placed above the batch; the said borders being welded one to the other in order to form a tube, the opposite extremities of which are first flattened through the insertion in between them of divarication means; the said extremities then being sealed by welding/pre-folding grippers designed to make, on each welded tubular extremity, weakening lines that aid the subsequent folding of the said extremities.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1984Date of Patent: October 21, 1986Assignee: G. Patent number: 4603537Abstract: In making a reclosable plastic film bag, bag mouth lips are formed projecting beyond a heat-seal band closing the bag mouth and a stiffening patch is bonded to the interior or exterior of a bag mouth lip between the heat-sealing band and the bag mouth end. The stiffening patches for the reclosable bag mouth end can be applied to a strip of sheet material for making bags at the time that the bags are formed and filled by clipping from a strip of patch-making material patch pieces having pressure-sensitive adhesive on one side. Such patch pieces are transferred from a clipper onto the bag-making material by a revolving transfer member having a suction pick-up to pick up a patch piece and a blow subsequently detaches the patch piece from the transfer member and deposits it onto the strip of bag-making material.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1985Date of Patent: August 5, 1986Assignee: Formost Packaging Machines, Inc.Inventor: Vincent C. Patent number: 4445309Abstract: The method of making a packaging container of board material for liquids, which has been rendered impermeable by an internal coating of plastic, in which the container is provided with a double thickness wall portion in which the interior communicates with the interior of the container, in which the container is first filled and closed and thereafter at least one score line for separation is applied to the double-thickness wall portion, and at least one narrow weld edge is applied to both sides of the double-thickness portion for sealing the score line, and closely adjacent to the score line, which weld portion may readily be severed by lifting a strip of the material by one of the walls which can be gripped by the fingers. In another aspect, weld seams are provided at both sides of a score line, and may be formed simultaneously with the forming of the score line.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1982Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: Tetra Pak Developpement S.A.Inventor: Wilhelm Reil

Patent number: 4426035Abstract: A recloseable bag package is provided by closing the top of a filled bag to form a neck, preferably trimming the walls of the bag to the same height, folding over a portion of the neck, preferably only once, and sealing the folded over portion of the neck to a side wall of the bag using a composite tape comprising a length of a first tape having a non-setting adhesive coating on one surface and a length of a second tape overlapping one edge of the adhesive coated surface of the first tape. The first tape seals or reseals the bag, and the second tape provides a tab for peeling the first tape partially from the bag to open the package and also provides a vehicle for coupons or other printed matter. Apparatus is provided to close, trim and fold the bag and to form and apply the lengths of composite tape.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1981Date of Patent: January 17, 1984Assignee: Hammex Machines Ltd.Inventor: Klaus-Peter Dieckow

Patent number: 4364220Abstract: The invention relates to a sheet metal container adapted so that it can withstand an internal pressure. The container comprises two combined shell-shaped cavities, compression-moulded from the same web which cavities are brought together as the web is doubled along pre-impressed folding lines in two steps, namely a first step wherein the longitudinal edges of the web are joined together to form a tube of an elongated, substantially triangular cross-section, and a second step when the tube formed, after the contents have been introduced, is pressed flat and is sealed around the shell-shaped cavities. Finally the web is cut or punched around the hollow bodies formed by the shell-shaped portions to form a flange, closed in itself, which flange is folded down or beaded.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1980Date of Patent: December 21, 1982Assignee: Tetra Pak International ABInventor: Hans A. Patent number: 4351692Abstract: A machine for automatically sealing the end of various sized lengths of plastic tubing and for filling same has a clamshell clamp for straightening and firmly positioning the tubing, a carriage with an alignment ring which is lowered over the end of the tubing, a heat probe with a separate drive for insertion into the tube end to heat it, and a plurality of plows having depending guide legs which are simultaneously advanced radially inward against the heated tube end to collapse it and hold it as it cools, thereby creating a weld seal. An abrading arm assembly is mounted to the carriage and has an abrading brush or roller which may be rotated upon insertion into the tube end to roughen the inner surface of the tube end to enhance the weld seal. The tube straightener and the alignment ring positively align the pipe and the heat probe. A filler arm assembly is mounted to the carriage and may be extended to align with the tubing.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1981Date of Patent: September 28, 1982Assignee: Ouellette Machinery SystemsInventor: Joseph F. Patent number: 4249361Abstract: In a method of automatically closing a large upright sack after filling, the top of the flattened filling end of the sack is folded over onto itself and a closure tape is secured to the folded-over portion and one wall of the sack, whereafter the filling end is re-erected substantially vertically, folded in zig-zag fashion and pulled together to form a frill. The ends of the tape project beyond both sides of the filling end so that, after zig-zag folding of the filling end and tape and after the frill has been formed, the tape ends project from the same side of the frill and can be interconnected.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1979Date of Patent: February 10, 1981Assignee: Windmoller & HolscherInventors: Konrad Tetenborg, Helmut Huwelmann
