Longitudinal Tube Formed From Single Web Patents (Class 53/550)
  • Patent number: 4970846
Abstract: A product support table, having an elongated longitudinal opening is positioned over a pair of fin seal wheels which provide a seal between two edges of a sheet of film that has been wrapped around an article. The product support table supports a pair of product transport belts that are located between the product being wrapped and the product support table. The belts run the length of the product support table generally in contact with the top side of the table and then, on the return run, are directed upwardly to the bottom of the product support table for most of its travel back to a drive roll and a belt take-up roll.

  • Patent number: 4967541
Abstract: An inverted horizontal wrapping machine is provided with an article infeed system which includes a horizontal feed trough with an open exit end positioned closely adjacent the inlet end of the wrapping material tube being continuously formed by the machine's forming box. Offset to one side of the trough is a looped drive chain structure which is rotated in an essentially horizontal plane. A spaced series of flag-type pusher members are pivotally secured to the chain structure for movement therewith, the flag portions of the pusher members along the inner side of the chain structure being swept through the trough to slide articles therein sequentially into the tube inlet. As each pusher flag reaches the exit end of the trough, a first cam element upwardly and rearwardly pivots the flag to disengage it from its associated article, and the pivoted flag is then moved horizontally away from the trough.

  • Patent number: 4872302
Abstract: Articles are stretch wrapped in a plastic film by forming a tube around them from a flat plastic film, sealing the longitudinal edges of the film and then longitudinally stretching the tube to cause it to constrict on the articles being wrapped. The tube is initially of a sufficient diameter to avoid contact with the articles. Both the articles and the tube are conveyed downstream. The tube is fed downstream by a positive transport means which isolates the tube forming operation from any downstream tension. A downstream mechanism pulls on the tube faster than the positive transport means conveys it causing the tube to stretch and constrict on the articles to be wrapped. The tube is closed behind each set of articles and the downstream portion is severed from the upstream portion forming a tube terminus behind one set of articles and in front of the next set.

  • Patent number: 4761937
Abstract: Starting with a continuous flat sheet upper forming means define a central portion of the sheet which will form the top of the wrapper and two side flaps each of which is situated between the central portion and a respective longitudinal edge of the sheet. Lower forming means fold these side flaps downwardly under a plate for closure of the wrapper and, due to the advance of the folded sheet, cause the joining of the longitudinal edges of the sheet and the consequent formation of a tubular wrapper. The forming means consist of rollers whose position relative to the closure plate as well as their relative positions, can be selectively adjusted while the geometry of formation of the sheet is kept substantially unaltered.

  • Patent number: 4750239
Abstract: A parting-off apparatus used, e.g., to part off individual sausages from a tubing, which is continuously filled with sausage meat, comprises displacing members (9, 10; 19, 20), which can be rectilinearly moved in mutually opposite directions and have triangular cutouts (11; 21), which constrict the tubing so as to form a constricted portion therein and in that region displace the filling material in the tubing. The displacing members (9, 10; 19, 20) are periodically driven by means of a control disc (4), which is periodically driven to rotate in one sense and which has the configuration of a circular ring and has an axis of rotation (2) which coincides with the axis of the tubing and of the opening (12) defined by the displacing members.

  • Patent number: 4722168
Abstract: A method and apparatus for increasing the performance and through-put of a high speed horizontal wrapping machine of the type having mechanically independently driven infeed, film drive and cut/seal head motors, each controlled by a shared programmed microprocessor whereby in the event that a product to be wrapped gets out of registration to the point where the machine's cut/seal head blades might otherwise engage the product being wrapped rather than only the film between two adjacent products, the condition is sensed and a software routine is called which causes the cut/seal heads to come to a stop in the open condition while the film tube continues to be fed until all the products, including the one out of registration and all those downstream from it, exit the wrapper, at which point the wrapper resumes its normal running mode. In this fashion, damage to the cut/seal head and associated down-time to clear the jam is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4712357
Abstract: The horizontal wrapping machine of the type wherein a succession of articles are fed into a traveling tube of web material which is sealed longitudinally and severed and sealed between the articles to produce individual hermetically sealed packages. A variable speed motor drives a conveyor which may be provided with article feeding flights and a switch, actuated once each revolution of a timing shaft, provides a pulse corresponding to each flight on the article feeding conveyor. In addition an encoder driven by the variable speed drive motor shaft provides a digital velocity signal used as a reference signal for servo motors that may be coupled, in combination or individually, to drive web feed rolls, longitudinal sealing wheels and one or more sealing and severing heads. A delivery conveyor transporting individual packages may, through a suitable drive train, be driven by the variable speed drive motor.
