  • Patent number: 6378277
Abstract: A vertical sealing device for a packing machine includes a pair of feed units for feeding a cylindrical-formed packaging material and a center heat sealer for the heat-sealing of a vertical seam of the packaging material. When the operation of the machine is halted, the feed units feed the packaging material from a steady speed mode to a deceleration mode. During this deceleration mode, the operation of the center heat sealer is stopped. On the other hand, when the operation of the packing machine is restarted, the feed units feed the packaging material in an acceleration mode, and during this acceleration mode, the center heat sealer starts operating.

  • Patent number: 6367230
Abstract: A bag packaging apparatus includes a forming mechanism, a pull down belt mechanism, a longitudinal seal mechanism, a latitudinal seal mechanism, and a settling mechanism. The forming mechanism forms films into tubular shape. The pull down belt mechanism conveys the tubular film F. The longitudinal seal mechanism seals the tubular film F in a longitudinal direction. The latitudinal seal mechanism seals the tubular film F in a latitudinal direction. The settling mechanism is disposed between the forming mechanism and the latitudinal seal mechanism, and between the longitudinal mechanism and the latitudinal mechanism. The settling mechanism presses a portion of the tubular film F that is going to become an upper end of a bag and a bottom end of a following bag, while seal jaws 78 seal the tubular film F. The sealed portion becomes a bottom end of the bag. The following bag follows the bag, whose bottom end is the sealed portion.

A display device displays a time axis or parallel axes along which markers indicate the times of arrival of the falling articles to be packaged and the sealers at the clamping position for the sealers. As the user moves the marker for indicating the arrival time of the sealers, the timing controller adjusts the operating mode of the sealers such that the sealers will clamp the film at the time specified by the user according to the displayed time of arrival of the articles.

In addition to the mechanism for this motion, an air cylinder is provided for controlling the compressive force with which the heater unit at its sealing position compresses the film. Abstract: A forming, filling and sealing machine comprises three sealing mechanisms for heat sealing a film, a folding mechanism for inwardly folding the width direction middle part of the film along the longitudinal direction of the film, and an injection pipe for injecting in filling materials. A first sealing mechanism heat seals a long sheet film to be carried downwards with both side ends overlapped with each other, the heat sealing being applied to the overlapped both side ends along the longitudinal direction of the film. A second sealing mechanism heat seals at least the top of two ridge portions formed by the folding mechanism in the film along the longitudinal direction of the film. A third sealing mechanism is disposed below the injection pipe for horizontally heat sealing the film and cutting the heat sealed portion.

  • Patent number: 6138441
Abstract: In the production of a strand-form hotmelt adhesive wrapped in a tubular film which is suitable for simultaneous melting with the hotmelt adhesive and which does not have any surface tackiness at normal storage temperatures, the heated liquid hotmelt adhesive is introduced into the cooled tubular film and the tube is subsequently cooled in a cooling bath. During introduction of the hotmelt adhesive, the shape of the tubular film is stabilized by providing an excess gas pressure and/or a guide inside the tube. The outside of the tube is cooled by a cooling liquid, the tubular film is brought into a substantially horizontal position after immersion in the cooling bath and is kept in that position in the cooling bath at least until the contents of the tubular film in proximity with said liquid hotmelt adhesive have at least partly solidified. Strands of any diameter and any length can readily be produced without significant effort in an economically and industrially useful manner.

  • Patent number: 6138442
Abstract: An apparatus for cross sealing a continuously moving plastic tube, such as to form bags for packaging in a form-fill-seal packaging machine is disclosed, along with a related method. The tube is fed continuously between a pair of opposed sealing jaws that move toward and away from each other in a polygonal path. Substantially continuous sealing pressure is provided between the jaws during a sealing pattern of movement along the path, with the remainder of the path including a return pattern of movement away and back towards the sealing zone. Each sealing jaw is carried on a bridge extending between dual gear assemblies. The sealing pattern of movement along the path is substantially linear so as to provide highly efficient sealing. The polygonal path is established by an offset point on an output shaft/pinion; the locus defining the path being selected from the group of hypotrochoids and epitrochoids.

Abstract: A form-fill-seal packaging machine has not only the basic elements such as devices for transporting a film and longitudinally and transversely sealing it but also a former and a chute formed integrally together as a former unit which is made detachably attachable to the frame structure of the packaging machine by an attachment mechanism. The former unit has wedge-shaped members, and the attachment mechanism includes a mobile member constrained to move linearly and a lever which is attached to the frame structure such that a one-touch operation to rotate this lever causes this mobile member to move towards or away from the wedge-shaped members on the former unit and to engage with them or disengage from them.

Abstract: A protective foam cushion-making apparatus dispenses reactive foam components into an interior space between two panels of plastic film to form protective foam cushions. The apparatus includes a supply of plastic film and a film a driving assembly, such as two pliable rollers. A foam component dispensing assembly is interposed between the film panels and injects reactive foam components into the interior space where they are mixed together to form a mass of expandable foam. The plastic film forms a flexible mixing chamber in the area between the two pliable rollers in which the reactive foam components are mixed together after they are dispensed from the foam dispensing assembly.

Abstract: The apparatus and method attaches a section of unsupported interlocking zipper transversely to portion of film drawn around a fill tube of a form fill and sea machine. This includes the steps of driving and guiding said zipper horizontally around the outside of the film formed around the tube in a direction transverse to direction of movement of the film, after the formation of the fin seal. An alternative embodiment drives and guides the zipper horizontally around the inside of the film formed around the tube prior to the formation of the fin seal. A retractable ledge may be used to guide the zipper in the alternative embodiment. A slider operated zipper can also be used in this alternative.

Abstract: The formation of a tubular web in a form-fill process is achieved by drawing the web along a tapering guide (6) and then along a forming tube (20) the axis of which is at a small angle to the guide plate and intersects the guide. The web is drawn along the guide and tube by opposed drive rollers (24) at a station along the length of the forming tube, the rollers gripping the edges of the web together.
