Abstract: A simple operation winds film around, and thereby wraps therewith, a loadable object over its entire (six) surfaces. Film is wound spirally around the loadable object by revolving film feeders along a circular path about a horizontal axis while advancing the object through the circular path and along a path of the horizontal axis in one direction. After the loadable object is so spirally wrapped, it is rotated in a horizontal or vertical plane by an angle of 90 degrees. The loadable object is then advanced in the reverse direction again through the circular path while the film feeders are revolved as before to cause another film from the film feeders to be wound spirally around the loadable object. One film feeder may furnish a continuous strip of film, and another film feeder may furnish a continuous string of film formed by compression of such a strip of film.

Abstract: A stretch-wrapping machine consists of a revolving ring with a packaging material dispenser mounted to it. The ring revolves about a horizontal axis to dispense the stretch wrap material around a load that is supported by a forklift. The revolving ring is mounted on a track that allows the ring to travel back and forth in a direction perpendicular to the ring. This allows the machine to wrap any load that fits within the ring. Thus the length and the weight of the load do not limit the wrapping capability of the machine.

Abstract: An apparatus for setting a corner protector on a corner of a package comprises a gripping and positioning device (1) for gripping the corner protector and placing it onto the corner of the package, and a corner protector magazine (2). A storage space (3) in the magazine stores corner protectors arranged as a file. Conveying means (7-10) move the file in the storage space toward the delivery end. A gate (11) has been arranged to be moved between a closed position (II) and an open position (I). An arresting device (13) is provided with a separating tab (14) which moves between an arresting position (A) and a releasing position (B). In the arresting position (A), the separating tab is between the foremost corner protector (41) in the file and the second corner protector (42) next in the file so as to arrest the file of corner protectors while the gate (11) is in the open position (II).

  • Patent number: 6470657
Abstract: A portable film wrapping system comprises a push-cart having a vertical mast member and a film roll carriage movably mounted upon the vertical mast member. A lift cable connects the film roll carriage to a lift cable drum which is rotatably connected to a lift sprocket through a clutch mechanism, wherein the lift sprocket is rotatably connected to a drive wheel engaged with a floor surface over which the portable system is movable. When the clutch mechanism operatively connects the lift cable drum to the lift sprocket, the lift cable drum is rotated so as to wind the lift cable thereon and thereby continuously elevate the film roll carriage whereby spiral wrapping is achieved. When the clutch mechanism disconnects the lift cable drum from the lift sprocket, the lift cable is no longer wound upon the lift cable drum whereby the film roll carriage is maintained at a particular elevation so as to achieve concentric reinforcing wrapping.

  • Patent number: 6470656
Abstract: A film delivery system for use with plastic film wrapping apparatus for wrapping prestretched plastic film around a palletized load or article disposed at a wrapping station comprises a brake hub or pulley upon which a roll of plastic film material is mounted, and a single dancer or idler roller mounted for linear reciprocating movement upon a mounting plate and around which the plastic film material is routed from the roll of plastic film material to the load or article being wrapped. A brake band is disposed around the outer peripheral surface of the brake hub, and one end of the brake band is connected to a brake arm, while the other end of the brake band is connected to a brake adjustment spring. The brake arm is also connected to the single dancer or idler roller such that depending upon the linear disposition of the single dancer or idler roller during a plastic film wrapping operation, different braking or tension forces are impressed upon the brake hub and the plastic wrapping film material.

Abstract: A device for tensioning web, such as a plastics web dispensed from a shuttle in a wrapping machine, is disclosed. The wrapping machine usually includes an endless track positioned about an object to be wrapped and the shuttle travels on the endless track, dispensing the web as it goes. The rate at which web is dispensed varies as the shuttle progresses around the track and is dependent upon the shape of the track and the shape of the object to be wrapped. The web tensioning device attempts to maintain a constant tension in the web and includes a pair of rollers covered with resilient material. The rollers are urged together to form a nip with the resilient covering of the rollers compressed in the nip. The web is fed between the nip of the rollers.

  • Patent number: 6453643
Abstract: In wrapping palletized loads with stretchable film having an elastic memory, when the wrapping is about completed, a distancing device is placed close to the wrapped load on which the last wrapping turn rests, so that a pocket is formed in the turn. The carriage of the wrapping machine is stopped in a predetermined angular position and the film tail is aligned and placed in a main clamp and a secondary clamp. Subsequently, a cutting device cuts the film between the two clamps, and the main clamp holding the leading end coming from the wrapping machine carriage moves backward at rest. The other clamp holding the tail end is introduced into the pocket and then opens and is drawn out from the pocket together with the distancing device , so that the wrapping tail gets caught and blocked by friction in the last turn which shrinks flat.

  • Patent number: 6446418
Abstract: A circular track (11) constructed to open and close supports a truck (4) riding on the track (11). A packaging material feeder (7) is mounted on the truck (4) to feed packaging material (6) from a packaging material coil (5). Part of the item for packaging (8) is placed in the closed circular track (11) and is supported by means of a support (9). A drive mechanism for moving the truck (12) is set along the circular track (11) and is engaged with the truck (4) . The drive mechanism is operated with a motor stationarily mounted to the track to move the truck along the circular track (11). There is no need to mount the motor to the truck. Accordingly, it is possible to make the truck compact and decrease the curvature radius of each corner of the circular track. This results in the possibility of wrapping a relatively large item for packaging and at the same time make a packaging device simple and compact in its entirety.
