  • Publication number: 20100251668
Abstract: A machine for inflating and sealing an inflatable structure having a longitudinal edge generally comprises a drive, an inflation nozzle, a sealing device, and a sheet engagement device. The machine may define an engaging assembly and an opposing assembly. The drive may be rotationally coupled to the sheet engagement device such that when the drive rotates, the engagement device also rotates. The sheet engagement device may comprise one or more engagement rollers which may have a plurality of teeth thereon. A first plurality of rollers and a second plurality of rollers comprising the engagement rollers may intermesh between a drive roller and a backing roller on the longitudinal edge of the inflatable structure. Thereby, the sheets of the inflatable structure may be engaged together and the length of the longitudinal edge may contract to facilitate inflation. The resulting inflated inflatable structure may comprise an embossed longitudinal edge.

  • Patent number: 7669386
Abstract: An apparatus and method for filling a continuous air filling type air enclosure with air comprises moving first an air cylinder film sheet onto a working platform, hot-sealing two outer films of the air cylinder film sheet using a hot sealing device to form an air filling passageway, moving an air filling head into the air filling passageway and then using a clamping apparatus to press the two outer films tightly to attach onto the air filling head to allow air in the air filling head to be filled into the air filling passageway and enter an air cylinder of the air cylinder film sheet via an air inlet of the air cylinder film sheet to cause the air cylinder to be filled with air and expanded.

  • Patent number: 7328541
Abstract: A method comprises pulling a continuous web to advance the web along a path of conveyance and to create tension in a lengthwise portion of the web; manipulating the web to cause the portion of the web at a point along the path to have a non-uniform tension across the width of the web, with a maximum tension being at a location spaced from the first longitudinal edge of the web, and with the tension decreasing from such location toward the first longitudinal edge of the web such that a zone in the web at the first longitudinal edge has reduced tension; and controlling transverse positioning of the first longitudinal edge in the zone of reduced tension. The reduced-tension zone is produced by a tension-reducing member about which the web is pulled.

  • Patent number: 7165375
Abstract: An inflation device for introducing gas into inflatable webs of the type comprising a pair of juxtaposed film plies and a pair of opposing film edges, the inflation device including a body having a longitudinal dimension, a transverse dimension, and a web-contact region in which the inflation device makes contact with opposing surfaces of the juxtaposed film plies as gas is introduced into the inflatable web, the body having at least one increase in peripheral transverse surface distance along the longitudinal dimension of the body, and a passage within the body through which gas may flow, the passage having a termination point within the web-contact region to form an inflation zone therein.

  • Patent number: 4221102
Abstract: In an apparatus for sealing cans 7, 7' each having a lid 8, 8' under vacuum, a lifting device is provided having a plate 13, 33 movable from below against a stationary, evacuatable bell 14, 36 and serving to receive a can 7, 7' already provided with a lid 8, 8'. Devices for lifting the lid 8, 8' from the can 7, 7' are furthermore provided. In order to be able in addition to seal cans of different sizes in this apparatus, without having to change the course of operation of the apparatus, an adjustment piston 20 is provided as the device for lifting the lid 8, 8' from the can 7, 7', the adjustment piston being capable of being subjected to pressure medium and being guided in an adjustment cylinder 18. Reduction elements 52, 53 are furthermore releasably disposable on the adjustment piston 20 on the one hand, and on the inner wall of the bell 14 on the other.
