Abstract: Reduced-rosin compositions of printing inks and the resinate binders therein, and the processes of preparation thereof, are described. In said compositions, a portion of the rosin normally used in the art is replaced by Monomer, and is further reacted with ?,?-unsaturated carboxylic compound, alkaline metal salt, and solvent to produce the resinate binder product. Said resinate binder may then be formulated with a colorant to produce an ink, preferably for use in publication gravure.
Abstract: A method for producing a protein suitable for X-ray crystallographic analysis, in a cell-free protein synthesis system comprising a cell-free extract, a nucleic acid coding for said protein, and amino acids for the substrate of said protein, wherein said amino acids comprises at least one amino acid comprising a heavy atom, and wherein the introduced rate of said amino acid comprising the heavy atom into the synthesized protein is at least 80%.

Abstract: Nucleic acid-imaging compositions and methods for noninvasive imaging of a nucleic acid introduced into somatic tissues of an animal or human are disclosed. The noninvasive imaging enables quantitative assessment of the biodistribution of the introduced nucleic acid. The disclosed imaging compounds include a base-binding moiety, a phosphate-binding moiety, and a metal-binding moiety. A chelated metal is non-invasively detected for imaging by radioactivity or magnetic resonance.

Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition for facilitating passage of compounds through the blood-brain barrier comprising the agent ACHE-I4 readthrough (SEQ ID No:1) splice variant or the I4 peptide (SEQ ID No:2) and analogues of each thereof and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier is disclosed. Alternatively, the pharmaceutical composition for facilitating passage of compounds through the blood-brain barrier can comprise the agents adrenaline, atropine, dopamine and/or an adrenergic combination and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The composition can comprise at least two of the agents. The composition of the present invention can optionally include the compound to be transported across the blood-brain barrier. Alternatively, the compound can be co-administered (simultaneously) with the composition or can be administered at some point during the biologically effective period of the action of the composition.
Abstract: This invention provides a rosin-based molecular crystal formed from the following component A and component B:Component A: dehydroabietic acid or a rosin-based resin acid containing dehydroabietic acid as an essential constituentComponent B: at least one rosin-based resin acid alkali metal salt selected from the class consisting of lithium, sodium and potassium salts of said component A,a polyolefin resin nucleating agent comprising the rosin-based molecular crystal, a polyolefin resin composition comprising the nucleating agent and if desired a calcium compound, and a molded article obtainable by molding the resin composition.
Abstract: A process for hydrogenating carbon-carbon double bonds of a water-soluble olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid salt which comprises(a) combining an aqueous solution of an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid salt with(1) an oxidant selected from the group consisting of oxygen, air and hydroperoxides;(2) a reducing agent selected from hydrazine and hydrates thereof; and(3) a metal ion activator;(b) heating the mixture to a temperature from 0.degree. C. to the reflux temperature of the reaction mixture; and(c) neutralizing the pH of the reaction mixture.
