Abstract: Compounds of the general formula I ##STR1## where R is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl and X is chlorine or bromine, with the proviso that X is only bromine when R is H, possess pigment properties and are distinguished by high color strength, brilliance and very good fastness properties.
Abstract: Azo pigments are obtained by diazotizing a diazotizable aromatic amine without solubilizing groups in anhydrous dipolar aprotic water-miscible solvents with the stoichiometric amount or a small excess of nitrosylsulfuric acid or nitrosyl chloride, coupling the diazonium compound so obtained with a coupling component and isolating the pigment obtained in usual manner. This process is carried out in homogeneous solution and yields azo pigments the advantageous properties of which cannot be achieved by other methods, for example, the excellent purity, grain softness, narrow range of particle size distribution, excellent dispersibility in plastic materials and color lacquers, high gloss and excellent opacity in color lacquers.

Abstract: The disodium salt of 1-[(6-methoxy-4-sulfo-3-methylphenyl)azo]-2-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid (FD and C Red 40), the disodium salt of 1-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid (FD and C Yellow 6), the trisodium salt of 1-[1-(4-sulfonaphthyl)azo]-2-naphthol-3,6-disulfonic acid (FD and C Red 2), the disodium salt of 2-[1-(4-sulfonaphthyl)azo]-1-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid (Carmoisine) and the sodium salt of 2-(2-quinolyl)-1,3-indanedione-sulfonic acid (D and C Yellow 10) are prepared and purified in high yield and in a high state of purity by subjecting their aqueous reaction mixtures to ultrafiltration through a membrane of such structure and under such conditions that the impurities are separated from the reaction mixtures, and the products are concentrated in high purity concentrates from which the products can be isolated directly by evaporation of the solvent.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of dyes which contain sulfonic acid groups and have a low electrolyte content, wherein an aqueous solution or suspension, which may or may not contain inorganic salts, of the dye containing sulfonic acid groups is(a) mixed with an amount, equivalent to the said dye, of a non-emulsifying, water-insoluble amine of a total of 12 to 40 carbon atoms, which forms, with the said dye, a salt which is sufficiently lipophilic for it to separate spontaneously from the aqueous phase,(b) the pH is brought to <5 with an acid and the batch is mixed thoroughly,(c) the two resulting phases of different density are separated, and(d) the phase which consists of the lipophilic ammonium salt of the dye is mixed, with or without prior washing with water, with a water-soluble base whose sulfonate salt is to be prepared, and with water, the resulting phases are separated, and the salt is left in the aqueous solution or is isolated therefrom.

Abstract: Dyes of formula ##STR1## wherein D is the radical of a formazane dye of formula ##STR2## X is a group which is capable of complex formation, Z is a --NH.sub.2 group, a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic or aromatic amino group, n is 1 or 2 and m is an integer from 2 to 5, and the benzene rings A, B and C can contain further substituents in addition to the --SO.sub.
Abstract: Described is a process for the production of substantially dustless water-soluble dye or optical brightener compositions, which process comprises mixing a dry, solid inorganic salt, heated to at least 50.degree. C., with a mixture of at least one dye or optical brightener, an adhesive as e.g. sorbitol, a dust binding surface active agent and further additives. Such compositions are negligibly dusty to dustfree, and retain these properties even after storage for months, particularly in the case where spray-dried material is used.
Abstract: A compound of the formula, ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is methyl or ethyl, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each C.sub.5 -- or C.sub.6 --alkyl, and Z is chlorine for use as a blue disperse dye of hydrophobic fibers, either alone or as a mixed dye in combination with anthraquinone; the compound combines low cost relative to anthraquinone with superior stability in the dye bath and excellent dyeability; mixed dyes retain anthraquinone-imparted brilliance of color, have good color fastness, dyeability and reproducibility characteristics, and maintain low cost.
Abstract: A process for the wet granulation of organic pigment is disclosed which consists in treating under vigorous agitation an aqueous suspension of pigment with acetic anhydride, propionic anhydride or a mixture thereof. Acetic anhydride is used preferentially. After hydrolysis of the anhydride, besides the granules, an aqueous solution of acid or its corresponding salt, directly saleable or re-usable in the chemical industry, is recovered whereby problems related to the recovery of organic solvents are avoided.
