Abstract: Disperse monoazo dyestuffs, free from carboxylic and sulphonic acid groups, derived from 3,5-dinitro-2-amino thiophene as disazo component and an arylamine coupling component exhibit superior properties when used to give colorations to textile materials such as secondary cellulose acetate and cellulose triacetate, polyamide and aromatic polyester textile materials, said colorations having excellent fastness to light and to wet and dry heat treatments. The dyestuffs also have high tinctorial strength and excellent dyeing and build-up properties and produce depths of shade which are relatively independent of the dyebath pH, or the temperature of the dyebath or the liquor ratio of the dyebath.

Abstract: This invention relates to the intramolecular oxidation and reduction of aromatic hydrocarbons containing at least one methyl group and a nitro group ortho to the methyl group. Further, it relates to preparing methyl o-amino arylcarboxylates and aromatic amines. The process comprises reacting aromatic hydrocarbons having at least one methyl group and a nitro group ortho to the methyl group in a solvent at a temperature of about 450.degree. to 750.degree. C. When the solvent is methanol, methyl o-amino arylcarboxylates useful in anesthetics, printing inks for polyethylene, and useful in the manufacture of azo dyes are produced. Novel substituted methyl anthranilates have been produced which have the foregoing uses. When no solvent is used or the solvent is benzene, cyclohexane, toluene, hexafluorobenzene or any other non-reactive solvent, the compounds are demethylated and aromatic amines are produced.

Abstract: Aminoalkylenephosphonic acids and their alkali metal salts prepared by a reaction utilizing a primary or secondary tetrahydrothiophenamine 1,1-dioxide or the hydrochloride thereof, an aldehyde or a ketone, and orthophosphorous acid are useful in the control of scale and sludge deposition in aqueous systems. When used in combination with known corrosion inhibitors they show synergistic results in inhibiting corrosion of metal surfaces in contact with an aqueous system that is normally corrosive to such metals.
Abstract: Unsymmetrical N-substituted bis-carbamoyloxy disulfide compounds exhibit outstanding nematocidal, miticidal and insecticidal activity, coupled with substantially reduced mammalian toxicity and phytotoxicity as compared to known pesticidal compounds having a comparable spectrum of activity against insect, arachnid and nematode pests.
