Patent number: 8702830Abstract: A filtering apparatus having a plurality of passages made up of juxtaposed longitudinally extending channels. The passages are axially divided by a porous filtering media extending across the channels whereby the channels fluidly communicate through the porous filtering media. A pressure differential is created across the filtering media by restricting flow through an end of each channel, with each restriction being at an opposite end from that of the other channel. As flow restriction rather than outright blocking is used, some flow is possible along each passage directly along the channels even if the channels lose the ability to fluidly communicate through clogging of the filtering media.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2005Date of Patent: April 22, 2014Assignee: DCL International Inc.Inventor: John Muter

Patent number: 6712884Abstract: A particle trap, such as in a honeycomb body, for separating particles out of an exhaust gas flow, includes a flow channel. An exhaust gas flow which includes particles flows through the flow channel. Internals, such as projections, humps, protuberances or the like are situated on one side of the flow channel. An opposite region of a channel wall is completely or partially porous. When a flow of exhaust gas which includes particles flows through the particle trap, the particles are diverted toward the porous channel wall, to which they adhere. They can then be removed again by regeneration. The particle trap and an associated process for separating particles out of an exhaust gas flow, are particularly advantageous when used in the exhaust system of an internal-combustion engine, in particular a diesel engine, specifically and advantageously in combination with a soot filter.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2002Date of Patent: March 30, 2004Assignee: EMITEC Gesellschaft fuer Emisssionstechnologies GmbHInventors: Rolf Brück, Meike Reizig, Peter Treiber

The gas both passes through and is deflected by the bodies and its mist and/or other components are captured and drained by the bodies. Reentrainment of the drained liquid flowing out of the bodies is prevented. The bodies may be arrays of rows of separate baffles or they may be mounted on vanes.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1978Date of Patent: March 20, 1984Inventor: Bernard J. Lerner

Patent number: 4321064Abstract: A filter comprising a flat sheet, a corrugated sheet adhered in faced relationship to said flat sheet, a first array of parallel spaced orifices formed in said flat sheet, and a second array of parallel spaced orifices formed in said corrugated sheet, orifices in said first array being disposed laterally in spaced relationship from orifices in said second array, orifices in said first array communicating with orifices in said second array through corrugations in said corrugated sheet.A process for separating suspended particles from a fluid using the foregoing filter is disclosed. Use of the foregoing filter in a spray booth is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1980Date of Patent: March 23, 1982Inventor: John W. Vargo

Patent number: 4236903Abstract: A air cleaner, comprising a container through which an elongated inlet tube is arranged to pass through a separating means in the form of piled discs having passages between them, said inlet tube being arranged with an outlet opening inside the container, said container being divided by a perforated partition into an air chamber for contaminated air and a substance chamber, said partition serving as a primary separation means arranged to permit flow of substance or contaminant into the substance chamber under influence of pressure from the contaminated air within the air chamber, said air thereafter being passed through said passages between the discs and leaving the container at the top.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1978Date of Patent: December 2, 1980Inventor: Sven O. Patent number: 4081255Abstract: A system for filtering stack gases and the like comprising an in-feed exhaust duct and a pair of filter vat cleaners disposed on opposite sides of the in-feed exhaust duct and horizontally spaced therefrom. A track assembly extends horizontally above the in-feed exhaust duct and filter vat cleaners, and a carriage car carrying two horizontally spaced filter containers is mounted rollably on the track assembly for reciprocating movement therealong to alternately position one of the filter containers over the exhaust duct, and then the other over one of the two filter vat cleaners, in alternating sequence. Coupling means is provided for coupling the filter containers with the respective filter vat cleaners and the exhaust duct. An out-feed exhaust duct is positioned over the track assembly and carriage and is vertically aligned with the in-feed exhaust duct.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1976Date of Patent: March 28, 1978Inventor: Gary L. Patent number: 3972678Abstract: A method of treating air containing odoriferous substances of both large and small molecular weights includes the step of establishing a flow of the air containing the odoriferous substances. The stream of flowing air is exposed to a bath in the form of a fine spray or mist of a concentrated solution of potassium permanganate at a first treatment zone to primarily oxidize the odoriferous substances having the smaller molecular weights and wash the air. The air is then passed through an adsorbing medium in the form of a bed of activated carbon at a second treatment zone to substantially adsorb and remove the remaining odoriferous substances having the larger molecular weights. Advantageously, the mist or droplets of the spray solution are removed from the air subsequent to movement from the first treatment zone and prior to movement into the second treatment zone. With the method, the air is substantially free of odoriferous substances upon removal from the second treatment zone.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1974Date of Patent: August 3, 1976Inventor: Ghassan F. Patent number: 3960508Abstract: A trough-type scale trap for use with a refinery or chemical plant reactor having a catalyst bed subject to plugging by fine particles. Compared to prior art traps, the trough-type scale trap of the invention is characterized by a larger volumetric capacity and screen area and is substantially easier to construct and to install or remove from closed reactor vessels than conventional traps. Its typical embodiment is as a series of parallel troughs having rectangular openings and disposed chordally across the reactor normal to the direction of flow. In one embodiment, the trough is a rectangular parallelepiped; in another embodiment, the substantially rectangular opening is reduced by tapering to a bottom significantly smaller than the inlet opening.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1974Date of Patent: June 1, 1976Assignee: Exxon Research and Engineering CompanyInventors: Glyndwr A.
