Patent number: 7381324Abstract: A hydromechanical driving device generates forward-pushing movements of a band-shaped filter material according to the pressure prevailing in the fluid to be filtered to operate band filter devices. The hydromechanical driving device includes a hydraulic accumulator (29) provided with a movable element (31) separating a first storage space (33) from a second storage space (35). Patent number: 6843834Abstract: The replacement of filters for Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) is often time-consuming and labor-intensive. Organizations having responsibility for many apartment or dormitory units can spend a significant fraction of their man-hours replacing such filters. A novel approach to reducing the labor for this task is to attach one end of sheet-type filtering material to a dispensing roll, and the other end to a gathering roll; both rolls being affixed to a frame. The assembly is installed into an air duct and the filtering material allowed to blouse, somewhat. The flow of air is intermittent in typical HVAC systems, so when the air begins to flow, the filtering material is forced, due to its resistance to flow, in the direction of the flow. This energy—a force applied through a distance—is utilized by a lever arm bracket to advance the gathering roll. In this fashion, new material leaves the dispensing roll and is exposed to the air, while the dirty filter sheet accumulates on the gathering roll.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2003Date of Patent: January 18, 2005Inventor: Jerry H. Schumacher

Patent number: 6811685Abstract: A self-cleaning strainer which may be installed upstream of a heat exchanger to prevent debris greater than a critical size from reaching the heat exchanger. The strainer is preferably mounted just upstream of a heat exchanger in order to minimize the possibility of debris reaching the heat exchanger. The strainer comprises a screen element which can be advanced across the flow path of the fluid between two rollers. Flow blocking members are used so as to direct the flow to pass through the screen element.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2003Date of Patent: November 2, 2004Assignee: ExxonMobil Research and Engineering CompanyInventors: Amar S. Patent number: 4226715Abstract: An apparatus and method for separating entrained particulate matter from a fluid wherein particulate matter is collected in an overlying porous layer on an upstream side of a rotatable, fluid-permeable filter in a first chamber, and rotatably conveyed into a second chamber and used as an additional filtering medium. The filter comprises a cylindrical drum having a filter surface thereon and is rotatably mounted in an enclosed housing having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. Fluid pumping means operatively communicate with the housing for inducing a flow of fluid into the housing through the inlet and out of the housing through the outlet. Chamber means are disposed within the housing and sealingly cooperate therewith and with the cylindrical drum and define a first chamber fluidly communicating with the inlet and a predetermined portion of the cylindrical drum on the upstream and downstream sides thereof.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1979Date of Patent: October 7, 1980Assignee: The Terrell Machine CompanyInventors: Kurt W. Patent number: 4221576Abstract: The changer includes a filter supporting frame attached to a supply spool containing fresh filter material and a take-up spool for storing the clogged filter material. The frame is substantially rectangular in shape and has attached thereto a sensor switch which is disposed medially of the frame and the filter material disposed thereacross. The switch is actuated when the filter material becomes clogged to a point where deflection of the material in response to circulating air flow occurs. The switch actuates a drive motor attached to the take-up spool causing the take-up spool to wind the clogged material thereon thereby replacing it with clean filter material from the supply spool. The filter material itself contains transverse enlarged linear elements which are longitudinally spaced along the filter material at intervals equivalent to the width of the frame. The enlarged areas actuate a switch which causes cessation of the motor drive, thereby insuring accurate placement of the fresh filter material.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1979Date of Patent: September 9, 1980Assignee: James M. Patent number: 4054521Abstract: The invention relates to a continuous and controlled filter device that filters gases and liquids while maintaining a low differential pressure across the filter element. The device automatically advances clean filter medium into the filter seat or window when the differential pressure rises to a predetermined level replacing dirty filter medium with clean filter medium. The advance of the filter medium is effected by a fluid pressure operated expansible device cooperating with an indexing device for positioning the filter medium as a function of the pressure differential extending thereacross. The indexing device may include a ratchet structure for positively positioning preselected portions of the filter medium across the flow passage through which the fluid being filtered is passed.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1975Date of Patent: October 18, 1977Assignee: Brunswick CorporationInventor: John P. Patent number: 3985528Abstract: A control circuit for an automatic roll-type air filter including a photocell for detecting the dust load condition of the filter media and for energizing the circuit to cause the filter media to advance in response to the dust loading, a variable resistor to provide adjustment of the set-point at which the circuit is energized, and a fixed value resistor in series with the variable resistor to prevent setting of the variable resistor to a value which would allow the circuit to be energized thereby advancing the filter media when cleaned media is present in the air filter zone of the automatic roll-type air filter.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1975Date of Patent: October 12, 1976Assignee: American Air Filter Company, Inc.Inventor: Alan E.
