Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure are directed to apparatuses and methods involving particulate sampling. As may be consistent with one or more embodiments, an apparatus includes a flow direction structure, a flow sampler and a particle collector having a collecting surface. The flow direction structure has interior sidewalls that direct the flow of particulate-laden gas along a flow path. The flow sampler is located in the flow path within the interior sidewalls, and operates with the flow direction structure to sample a portion of the particulate-laden gas at a reduced velocity, while allowing another portion of the particulate-laden gas to exhaust around the flow sampler. The flow sampler operates with the particle collector to direct the sampled portion of the particulate-laden gas to the collecting surface, and to adhere particulates from the particulate-laden gas to the collecting surface.

The partition wall (62) is arranged to extend into the bed (52) of fluidised dust for forming a seal (74) even when one of the compartments (2, 4) has been shut off. When shutting off a compartment (4) the inlets and outlets to that compartment (4) are closed and the dust in the hopper (42) is fluidised to provide a seal (74) between the compartments (2, 4).

Abstract: Powder overspray that is extracted from a spray booth is recovered back to a powder supply that is used to supply powder to the spray guns inside the spray booth. The powder overspray extracted from the booth is separated from the high flow air stream by a separator such as a cyclone separator. The powder falls into a transfer pan and a vacuum is used to convey the powder from the transfer pan to a vacuum receiver. The powder is then discharged to the feed hopper in the feed center. The use of a vacuum to convey powder from the cyclone to the feed center in effect permits substantially all of the powder overspray to be recovered from the spray booth directly to the feed hopper with minimal dwell or residence time within the cyclone or vacuum receiver subsystems during a spraying operation. The receiver can be rotated for easy cleaning, and the vacuum line cleaned by one or more cleaning elements drawn through the vacuum line.

  • Patent number: 6977005
Abstract: A waterless vacuum toilet system for an aircraft includes a toilet bowl connected via a suction valve and a waste collection pipe to a waste collection tank. Waste-contacting surfaces that come into contact with urine and fecal waste are coated with an adhesion-inhibiting or adhesion-reducing nanocoating. The adhesion of waste is significantly reduced, and the need for flushing water is completely eliminated. Instead, an air jet arrangement preferably including an annular ring nozzle or annular air gap directs an airflow into the toilet bowl and along the nanocoated waste-contacting surface thereof, to “air flush” the waste material from these surfaces. The flushing airflow may be induced through the air jet arrangement into the toilet bowl by the suction applied through the suction valve. The “air flushed” toilet system substantially reduces the total system weight and eliminates the need for toilet flushing water to be carried in the aircraft.
