    Abstract: The system to remove contaminants from an air stream provides an apparatus and method for removing pollutants, especially carbon, from polluted air. The apparatus and method include a device for thoroughly mixing polluted air with water in a manner to cause the carbon to disassociate from the air and be suspended in the water. The cleansed air is re-circulated for reuse. In one embodiment, clay or sand is utilized to absorb the carbon from the water. As contemplated, the carbon-enriched clay or sand may be used for land reclamation.

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a vessel formed with a vessel wall. A conduit is positioned within the vessel and is configured to direct flow of an FCC vapor-solid stream. The apparatus also includes a channel positioned within the vessel and in fluid communication with the conduit. The channel has a channel inlet with an inlet cross-sectional area and a channel outlet with an outlet cross-sectional area less than about 75% of the inlet cross-sectional area. The channel outlet is configured to direct the vapor-solid stream tangentially toward the vessel wall to separate the solid catalyst particles from the FCC vapor.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for the separation of gaseous components from gaseous mixtures in order to control emissions and treatment of the gaseous components. In one embodiment, the system makes use of a fan or gas moving device to first impose centrifugal forces on gas streams as the gas moves from the center of the fan toward the periphery of the fan housing. Heavier gases are forced to the outer regions of the fan housing while lighter gases remain closer to the fan axis. The heavier gases and lighter gases exiting the fan housing flow into a duct at different flow rates, and the heavier gases are diverted from the larger volume gas streams and then processed.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a centrifugal separator for cleaning of gas from solid or liquid particles suspended therein which are of greater density than the gas. A main object of the present invention is to accomplish a centrifugal separator which does not have said inactive regions and thereby achieves efficient separation of particulate contaminants from a gas. This object is achieved by the centrifugal separator initially defined, which is characterised in that the interspaces between the separation discs at least at their radially outer parts are substantially open for flow of the gas in the circumferential direction and that mutually adjacent separation discs are arranged at mutual spacing such that rotation of the rotor causes a pumping action in the interspaces, which pumping action drives the gas from the gas inlet, through the interspaces between the separation discs and out via the gas outlet.

An outlet device firstly comprises a convergent portion which partly converts the energy of whirling into energy of longitudinal translation, then a blading which completes the conversion, and finally a divergent portion in which the excess of dynamic energy of flow is converted into static pressure in order to recover as much as possible of the whirling energy applied to the fluid upstream of the inlet of the cyclone device. The separated particles are evacuated through a tangential outlet. The invention is more particularly applicable to the purification of fluids.

    Abstract: A skimmer is secured to the top of a cyclone separator. The skimmer includes an outer cylinder forming an extension of the conventional air exhaust duct of the separator and an inner concentric cylinder terminating within the lower end of the outer cylinder. A specially constructed spiral directing wall means is secured within the space and directs the fine dust laden peripherial layer of the exhaust air through the outer peripheral portion of the exhaust duct for selective discharge into and from a discharge opening and duct means. A door is provided for the opening, and has a central pivot means to simultaneously open and close the reverse sides of the door. The cylinders define an annular space aligned with the peripherial layer of the upwardly moving air from the cyclone separator. The peripherial air layers move into and through the annular space into the discharge duct or back into the center of the center cylinder while the central relative clean air passes through the center cylinder for discharge.

    Abstract: The disclosure concerns a separator for removing broken engine parts and other debris from the hot gases passing fro the exhaust manifold of an engine to the inlet of an associated turbocharger. The separator includes an annular separation chamber in which the gases are swirled by stationary vanes to effect centrifugal separation of the debris, and a cylindrical screen which filters the gases as they leave the separation chamber. The screen is mounted in cantilever fashion within the separator casing and carries, at its free end, the vanes and a deflector which directs inlet flow radially outward to the separation chamber. The vanes are freely mounted in slots formed in the screen, where they are held captive by the slot margins and the deflector, and the tips of the vanes are spaced radially from the surrounding casing of the separator.

    Abstract: The inlet assembly is mounted within a separator vessel and comprises a housing similar in shape to that of a snail shell. This housing has a generally spiral side wall closed in by top and bottom end walls. A feed pipe delivers pressurized crude oil tangentially to the inner end of the spiral side wall so that it rotates outwardly, following the length of said wall, to an outlet communicating with the interior of the separator vessel. Gas is separated by centrifugation in the smaller radius central portion of the housing and then the liquid flow velocity is reduced by expansion of the stream in the larger radius outer portion. Improvements in gas separation and emulsion reduction have been observed from use of the assembly.
