  • Patent number: 8016905
Abstract: The invention relates to a filter mat, which is used in applications where it filters the flows of contaminated air that pass through it. In such mats, there are points where aerosols collect. This is disadvantageous as it lowers the efficiency of the mat. The present invention overcomes this by having, at these points, wicks (2) that absorb said collections.

Abstract: An air purifier (10) for an animal transport vehicle, such as a horse float (12), has a first air flow passageway (22) for receiving air and directing it in a first direction, and a second air flow passageway (40) continuous with the first air flow passageway and adapted to direct air received from the first air flow passageway in a second direction substantially opposite to the first direction. There is a bend region (42) joining the first and second air flow passageways where the change in the direction of air occurs. An air egress passageway (34) has an opening (36) adjacent the bend region so as to divert some of the air therethrough. The passageway (34) is so configured as to create a venturi effect on the diverted air. A filter (43) is located downstream of the second air flow passageway (40) and is mounted across an opening of the transport vehicle so that air flowing through the second air flow passageway is filtered before entering the transport vehicle.

Abstract: A condenser and a containment vessel adapted to efficiently condense a gas out of a mixture of condensing and non-condensing gases. In condensers, the fraction of gas within a condenser made up of non-condensing gases can be significantly reduced by withdrawing gas from localised regions of relatively low temperature where the mass fraction of non-condensing gases will be relatively high. In containment vessels, pressures can be reduced by providing a large surface area of the liquid into which the condensing gas condenses in a relatively cool region of the containment vessel. Both these effects result from an appreciation of the manner in which non-condensing gases tend to accumulate in regions which are relatively cold.

  • Patent number: 7326265
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for cleaning the upstream surface (14) of a particulate filter (10) of a heat engine exhaust line, the filter (20) being arranged in a casing (12) having an outlet (22) for exhaust gases. The method comprises a step which consists in circulating a liquid flux through the particulate filter (10) from its downstream surface (18) towards its upstream surface (14) viewed from the direction of exhaust gas flow in the filter. The liquid flux circulated through the particulate filter (10) has a flow rate higher than 50 litres/minute and is distributed over the main part of the downstream surface (18) of the particulate filter.

  • Patent number: 7311746
Abstract: A highly efficient vapor/liquid separation apparatus for treating a flow of vapor/liquid mixtures of hydrocarbons and steam comprises a substantially cylindrical vertical drum having an upper cap section, a middle section comprising a circular wall, a lower cap section, a tangential inlet to introduce hydrocarbon/steam mixtures, an overhead vapor outlet, and a bottom outlet for liquid. The vessel also comprises an annular structure located in the middle section, comprising i) an annular ceiling section extending from the circular wall and ii) a concentric internal vertical side wall to which the ceiling section extends. The annular structure blocks upward passage of vapor/liquid mixtures along the circular wall beyond the ceiling section, and surrounds an open core having sufficient cross-sectional area to permit vapor velocity low enough to avoid significant entrainment of liquid.

  • Patent number: 7311741
Abstract: The invention describes a device for separating dust and dirt out of flowing media. A curved flow path (1) is imposed on the flow (21), and heavy foreign bodies are separated out of the main flow by centrifugal force. The partial stream required to carry away the foreign bodies is aftertreated in a filter (11) and returned in purified form. Unlike with conventional filters, which have to process the entire flow of media, pressure losses during the separation of dust are minimized, and on the other hand no medium is lost for removing the dust load.

  • Patent number: 7297173
Abstract: A hopper arrangement includes a damper arrangement selectively moveable in a plurality of positions to manipulate access to the interior volume. A first position includes a standby position wherein the enclosure and the damper arrangement block access to the interior volume. Another position includes a pressure-relief position wherein the interior volume is open to a continuous airflow path through the container. In some arrangements, there is an evacuation position wherein the damper arrangement allows access to the interior volume and blocks a continuous airflow path through the container. A gas turbine intake system includes a hood, a filter arrangement downstream of the hood and a collection hopper. The collection hopper is in airflow communication with an upstream side of the filter arrangement and downstream of the hood. The collection hopper includes a standby position and a pressure-relief position. A method of filtering air includes drawing air into a hood and then into a filter arrangement.

  • Patent number: 7279020
Abstract: Axial flow demisting cyclone for separation of a mixture of gas and liquid including an inlet 30 for gas containing liquid droplets and an outlet 31 for substantially dry gas, including a mainly cylindrical cyclone tube 16 with at least one path of slots or perforations 19 allowing a part of the fluid, including separated liquid, to flow out of the cyclone tube 16. The demisting cyclone also includes a swirl inducing device 17, 18 to set the entering fluid in rotation. This swirl-inducing device is formed from a cascade of vanes 18 attached to a concentric core body 17, preferably cylindrical in shape, which extends towards the wall of the cyclone tube 16, the vanes 18 being in the longitudinal direction of the vanes from their leading edge 23 to their trailing edge 24.
