Metal Oxide, Hydroxide, Carbonate, Or Bicarbonate Treating Agent Patents (Class 554/178)
  • Patent number: 11814349
Abstract: Provided are industrial processes for producing an organic acid alky ester from a feedstock containing organic acids and/or saponifiables, comprising: countercurrently contacting a feedstock with an organic alkylating reagent over two or more vessels or stages at temperature between 100° C. and 400° C. and pressure between barg and 355 barg while simultaneously removing water and/or glycerin with unreacted alkylating reagent from the final vessel or stage to result in a first reaction method product containing organic acid alkyl esters, followed by a choice of using the alkyl esters as-is, purifying the organic acid alkyl esters from the first reaction product mixture or subjecting the first reaction product mixture to an additional transesterification reaction to convert saponifiables into additional organic acid alkyl esters, then purifying the organic acid alkyl esters from this second reaction method product.

  • Patent number: 10702491
Abstract: Natural soap compositions and methods of manufacturing the same having anti-microbial properties for treating and preventing diaper rash and other microbial infections. The soap compositions may contain one or more fatty acids with carbon length ranging from four (C4) to twenty-two (C22) and/or natural fatty acid mixtures of coconut oil, olive oil, and/or tall oil fatty acids which are saponified with lye. The saponification lye may be sodium or potassium hydroxide. In preferred embodiments, the soap compositions contain at least one of sodium or potassium caprate, sodium or potassium caprylate, or mixtures thereof, especially 55:45% caprylate to caprate. The soap compositions are effective at treating or preventing diaper rashes and other microbial infections associated with Candida albicans (Ca—yeast), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Psa—a Gram negative bacteria), Staphylococcus aureus (Sa—a Gram positive bacteria), and Aspergillus niger (An—a mold).

Abstract: A method of processing agricultural oil in which non-toxic reagents are used, so that a waste stream is evolved suitable for use as a nutrient source and wherein the non-toxic reagents include nutrient source and wherein the non-toxic reagents include nutrient components whereby the nutrient value of the waste stream is enhanced. A variation of convention refining is detailed in which potassium hydroxide is used as refining caustic instead of conventional sodium hydroxide. The resulting process exhibits improvements in waste wash characteristics, more complete oil recovery, less oil in the soapstock, reduced interlayer formation, more soap removed from the refined oil into the soapstock stream, and a less viscous soapstock.

  • Patent number: 6623604
Abstract: Methods of recovering free fatty acids having a low ester content from alkanol-containing solutions and oil mixtures containing tocopherols are disclosed which involve atmospheric or vacuum stripping at low temperatures. The recovered fatty acids have a high acid value, and have high commercial value in the production of high quality (high acid value) products, e.g., dimerized fatty acids, useful in polyamide resins.

  • Publication number: 20020198393
Abstract: In refining crude vegetable oils, there are certain economic and quality advantages to refining the oils with potassium hydroxide. Lower overall cost is achieved from reduced levels of soap and trace impurities in the oil, improved refining yield for the oils refined with potassium hydroxide, higher retention of recoverable tocopherols in the oil, gentler reaction with triglyceride, lower mono and diglyceride in the potassium hydroxide soapstock, the option to convert a by-product of soapstock acidulation, into a profitable co-product and eliminate acid-water discharge from the soapstock acidulation process.

  • Patent number: 5458803
Abstract: A method of reducing acid emission from a flue gas produced by combustion of a sulphur-containing fuel. A pyrolysis liquor containing a thermolabile alkaline earth metal compound is introduced into a flue containing the flue gas. The alkaline earth metal compound is able to decompose at flue gas temperature to produce an alkaline compound able to react with sulphur dioxide in the flue gas. A liquor additive to inject into a flue gas resulting from a combustion of a sulphur containing fuel to reduce the acid content of the flue gas is also described. The liquor comprises a pyrolysis liquor, initially acidic but at least partially neutralized by basic alkaline earth metal compounds. The resulting liquor contains at least one thermolabile alkaline earth metal compound able to decompose at flue gas temperature to produce an alkaline compound able to react with sulphur dioxide. A method of producing the liquor is also described.

  • Patent number: 5156879
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for treatment of soapstock obtained by alkali refining of fats to provide a fluid, uniform, pumpable animal feed product. In the method, a raw soapstock is provided. The soapstock is pretreated by adding a strong, soluble base to the soapstock. Propionic acid is then added to the pretreated soapstock and the pH is adjusted to provide an acidified soapstock. With soapstocks having low gum levels, a fluid, uniform, pumpable product is provided without further treatment. At higher gum levels, the pretreated soapstock and/or the acidified soapstock is heated to a predetermined temperature to provide the fluid, uniform, pumpable product.
