Abstract: A spray boom for spraying a fluid on a target includes a boom frame and a spray section coupled to the boom frame. The spray section includes a spray pipe configured to be fluidly coupled to a fluid source and a nozzle coupled to the spray pipe and configured to be fluidly coupled to the fluid source. An actuator is coupled at one end to the boom frame and at an opposite end to the spray section. The actuator is controllably extending and retracting to move the spray pipe and nozzle between a raised position and a lowered position. A trip assembly is coupled between the boom frame and actuator for biasing the spray section to a biased position in which the actuator and nozzle are substantially perpendicular to the underlying surface.
Abstract: In one aspect, the present invention is directed to a method for obtaining an enriched composition of long chain monounsaturated fatty acids from an oil composition, typically a fish oil composition, comprising both long chain monounsaturated fatty acids and long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. In another aspect, the present invention is directed to a composition comprising at least 70% by weight of long chain monounsaturated fatty acids.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a commercial process for the production of refined palm oil rich in natural carotene. The process for the production of natural carotene rich refined oil comprises the steps of: (i) fractionating crude palm oil to form a liquid fraction and a solid portion; (ii) separating the liquid fraction from the solid portion; (iii) degumming the liquid fraction; (iv) neutralizing the degummed liquid fraction to substantially remove free tatty acids and impurities; (v) washing off the soap resulting from the neutralization step; and (vi) deodorizing the neutralized the product of step (v) to remove remaining free fatty acids and other impurities contained therein, thus forming a refined palm oil that contains less than 0.1% free fatty acid, has a carotene content retained of about 75%, an iodine value of less than 60 and a peroxide value of zero.
Abstract: The present invention provides Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) in its free fatty acid form and a process of isolation thereof from oils and fats of natural origin having Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) attached to triglycerides. The EPA isolated using the process of the present invention is in free flowing powder form which is directly compressible. Further, the EPA in powder form is free from triglycerides. The EPA powder of the present invention has purity more than 90%. The EPA in its free fatty acid powder form offers excellent bioavailability and stability at room temperature.
Abstract: Fat-containing compositions comprise a fat component having less than 40% by weight of trans fat and a cyclodextrin, wherein at least about 25% of the cyclodextrin in the composition is bound to the fat. The fat compositions as provided herein can be substantially more viscous or harder than a like fat composition that does not contain cyclodextrin that is bound to the fat. Food products and methods of use of food products are described.

Abstract: An easy and inexpensive process by which a concentrate of a given unsaturated fatty acid can be obtained from a mixture which has conventionally been difficult to concentrate.
Abstract: A method of preparing purified ester compositions is provided. The process can be utilized to isolate and purify monoglycerides and propylene glycol monoesters, to advantage. It can also be used to isolate preferred diester products. The invention also concerns equipment for conduct of the processes, provision of preferred food additives, and provision of preferred food industry compositions. The process generally involves use of liquid-liquid extractions, to advantage.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for removing phospholipids and/or polyvalent metals from a fatty substance. The process comprises the step of mixing by mechanical emulsification an aqueous solution of a salt of a polycarboxylic acid in the fatty substance. The mixture is present in the form of fine droplets or micelles of said aqueous phase in the fatty substance. The aqueous phase contains also advantageously an electrolyte derived from a monovalent cation. The preferred polycarboxylic acid salt is tetrasodium EDTA which is a complexant.
Abstract: Eicosapentaenoic acid or its ester is separated and purified from a mixture containing a highly unsaturated fatty acid or its ester effectively at low cost by a process, which comprises developing the mixture by a mixed solvent of an ether solvent and a hydrocarbon solvent, using a column filled with a silica gel having a particle diameter of 1-100 micrometers.
Abstract: A process for refining fatty substances in order to selectively and quantitatively separate therefrom the free fatty acids. The process combines the extraction with an alcohol or a polyol and a neutralization is conducted with an alkali at a controlled pH of 9 to 11.
Abstract: A process is disclosed for stabilizing and dispersing vegetable oils which contain polyunsaturated fatty acid radicals by means of .gamma.-cyclodextrin, as well as the thus obtained complexes and their use. In this process for stabilizing vegetable oils having a high proportion of triacylglycerines and containing polyunsaturated fatty acids, cyclodextrin is mixed with vegetable oil and so a cyclodextrin/vegetable oil complex is formed. This process is characterized in that .gamma.-cyclodextrin is used to form complexes with vegetable oils.

Abstract: A method for inhibiting the oxidation of oils and fats or fatty acids which comprises adding an antioxidant and an oxyacid having an average particle size of 200 .mu.m or less to said oils and fats or fatty acids. According to this method, the oxyacid is easily dispersed or dissolved in said oils and fats or fatty acids, and the oxidation inhibiting effect is remarkably improved without deteriorating the quality of the oils and fats or fatty acids.
Abstract: A method for extracting minor fatty compounds, partially steroids, from biological matter by means of cyclodextrin. According to the method, the cyclodextrin is stirred into said biological matter in a water-containing reaction medium to allow the formation of inclusion complexes between the cyclodextrin and the minor fatty compounds, whereafter said complexes are separated from said matter, the cyclodextrin being stirred in at a temperature such that the glycerides in said matter are in a congealed state.
