Abstract: An improved process for preparing water-soluble copper salts of carboxylic acids is described. More particularly, the improved process comprises the steps of(A) providing a mixture comprising(A-1) as a copper source, copper metal, a copper oxide or mixtures thereof,(A-2) at least one organic monocarboxylic acid containing about 10 to about 30 carbon atoms,(A-3) at least one alkanolamine compound characterized by the formulaR.sub.1 (R.sub.2)NHwherein R.sub.1 is a hydroxyalkyl group and R.sub.2 may be hydrogen or a hydroxyalkyl group, and(A-4) water,(B) treating the mixture with oxygen at a temperature up to about the reflux temperature of the mixture until the desired water-soluble copper salt is obtained, and(C) recovering the copper salt as an aqueous solution. The mixture (A) can be modified to include one or more dyes to produce colored solutions of the water-soluble metal salts.

Abstract: Mixtures of a metal salt of formula ##STR1## and a metal salt of formula ##STR2## in which formulae (1) and (2) Me is a metal ion of valency n,n is 2, 3 or 4, andeach of the rings A and B independently of the other is unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or an .alpha.
Abstract: The invention relates to metal salicylates of the formula ##STR1## wherein Me is a metal ion of valency n,n is 2, 3 or 4, andeach of the rings A and B independently of the other is unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or an .alpha.-methylbenzyl radical. The metal salicylates are particularly suitable developers for the color former in pressure-sensitive or heat-sensitive recording materials.
Abstract: As new compound is provided a cyclohexane derivative of the formula ##STR1## wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, an alkylthioalkyl group or an unsubstituted or substituted phenyl group; and R.sup.1 represents an alkyl group, an unsubstituted or substituted benzyl group, a phenethyl group, a phenoxymethyl group, a 2-thienylmethyl group, an alkoxymethyl group or an alkylthiomethyl group, or a salt of said cyclohexane compound. This cyclohexane compound exhibits useful plant-growth regulating effects on crop-plants and also non-crop plants such as lawn and may be prepared by cyclization of an acetonylsuccinic acid dialkyl ester, followed by reaction with an organic acid chloride and by intermolecular rearrangement.
Abstract: Methods are described for using organic copper complexes or their solvates, which exhibit superoxide dismutase activity and act as superoxide radical scavengers, as radioprotectants to protect mammalian cells from damage caused by gamma- or x-irradiation. Treatment can result in the protection of normal tissues in cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy and in the protection of individuals who may be at risk with regard to hazardous effects of exposure to occupational or environmental ionizing radiation.
