  • Patent number: 6323354
Abstract: A method of preparing amino acid transition metal chelates a palatable highly bioavailable source of transition metals for animal nutrition from lipoproteins and transition metal salts. The method requires strong aqueous base hydrolysis of the lipoproteins to sodium or potassium salts of alpha amino acids mixed with fatty acids. The salts are neutralized to amino acids mixed with fatty acids before the aqueous mixture is reacted with transition metal salts to form aqueous chelates. The aqueous mixture is dried and granulated to form a dry product comprising transition metal chelates homogeneously mixed with fatty acids. The new granular composition containing zinc, iron, manganese, copper, cobalt, or chromium provides a palatable and highly bioavailable source of transition metals for animal nutrition. Effective sources of lipoproteins are fractured cell walls of microbes generated in biological syntheses.

  • Patent number: 6245952
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of alcohols by reduction of the carbonyl function in substrates belonging to the class of aldehydes, ketones, esters or lactones, which substrates may contain unsaturated functions other than carbonyl. This process includes the steps of reacting the carbonyl substrate with stoichiometric amounts of a silane in the presence of catalytic amounts of an active zinc compound which is monomeric and not a hydride, hydrolyzing the thus-obtained siloxane with a basic agent, and separating and purifying, if necessary, the thus-obtained alcohol. The catalytically active compound is generally obtained by the reaction of an oligomeric or polymeric precursor compound of zinc with a complexing agent.

  • Patent number: 6114379
Abstract: A chelate comprised of creatine bonded to an essential mineral selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Cu, Zn, Fe, Cr, Co, Mo, Se and Mn to form a heterocyclic ring. Preferably, the metal is Mg, but Ca, Zn, Fe, Cr and Mn are also preferred. The creatine chelates of the present invention are capable of being absorbed in the stomach or intestines via active transport without substantial metabolism of the chelate. In other words, the creatine ligand is protected by the metal from undergoing cyclization in the acidic environment of the stomach and the metal is made more bioavailable due to the presence of the creatine ligand.
