  • Patent number: 4962218
Abstract: Novel compositions of silicone/polyether block copolymers are provided which are useful as surfactants in several classes of polyurethane foam production. While conventional copolymers have a polysiloxane backbone with pendant polyethers, the surfactants of the present invention are the reverse with siloxane pendants on a polyether chain. These novel non-hydrolyzable polysiloxane polyoxyalkylene copolymers which are characterized by an "inverted" structure, i.e., polyoxyalkylene backbones with lateral and/or terminally pendant polysiloxanes, represent species that are of a narrow molecular weight and compositional distribution and are free of unreacted polyether or non-modified silicone oil diluent. These surfactants are useful in various urethane foam systems and can also display aqueous wetting properties.

The modified polyols are the reaction product obtained by reacting a silicon atom containing compound with an unmodified polyol, the silicon atom compound being one which has (a) at least olefinically unsatured hydrocarbyl group and (b) at least one functional group which is reactable with the hydroxy groups on the polyol. Examples of such silicon atom containing compounds include vinyltriethoxysilane and vinyltrimethoxysilane. Modified polyols of the type described are particularly useful in the preparation of polymer/polyols containing high levels of polymer since they reduce the viscosity of the final polymer/polyol and decrease the tendency of the polymer/polyol to produce polymer sediment.

  • Patent number: 4577041
Abstract: The invention provides a novel cyclic organopolysiloxane compound represented by the general formula ##STR1## in which the groups denoted by R, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each typically a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, m is zero, 1, 2 or 3 and n is 2, 3 or 4 with the proviso that m+n is typically 4. A method for the preparation of the compound is disclosed. The inventive compound is useful as a crosslinking agent of a diorganopolysiloxane terminated at both molecular chain ends each with a silanolic hydroxy group so as to give a room temperature-curable silicone rubber composition free from the problem of emission of toxic or corrosive gases as a byproduct of the crosslinking reaction.

Abstract: Organopolysiloxane-polyoxyalkylene block copolymers having a limited number of dimethylsiloxane units, at least one 6 to 16 carbon alkyl radical and at least one polyoxyalkylene radical are good emulsifiers for preparing water-in-mineral oil emulsions if the polyoxyalkylene radicals do not account for more than 1/3 of the molecular weight of the block copolymer. The block copolymers are readily dispersible or dissolvable in mineral oil to which a personal care component can be added. Personal care emulsion compositions can then be prepared by emulsifying an aqueous phase into the mineral oil phase.

  • Patent number: 4467105
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of preparing dimeric or polymeric organosilane esters whose ester component is at least one glycol moiety and whose silicon atoms are linked together by a glycol moiety. These compounds are known and are used as hydraulic fluids whose preparation involves considerable difficulty. The present invention avoids these difficulties by setting out from organosilane diglycol esters or triglycol esters and transposing them with diglycols or polyglycols. In this transposition the glycol ether corresponding to the glycols is formed and is removed by distillation. The degree of condensation of the organosilane ester products depends on the weight-ratio of the organosilane glycol ester to the diglycols or polyglycols.
