  • Patent number: 8042321
Abstract: A rotating mechanical apparatus, such as would be used in a reel mower assembly, comprises a drive member rotatably mounted in a frame about a shaft axis. The drive member has a drive face oriented perpendicular to the shaft axis. A driven member has a driven shaft rotatably supported in the frame about the shaft axis, and a driven face oriented parallel to and bearing against the drive face. A bulb extends outward from one of the drive face and the driven face and into a corresponding recess in the other. Magnets force the drive face to bear against the driven face such that the driven shaft rotates with the drive member. One of the drive face and the driven face are movable along the shaft axis to disengage the bulb from the recess. A height adjustment mechanism moves ground rollers closer together or farther apart to vary cutting height.

  • Patent number: 7937918
Abstract: A plurality of corn head row units are mounted in side-by-side relationship to each other, with each row unit including a first gear case containing a gear train coupled for driving two forwardly projecting stalk roll drive shafts and two gathering chain drive shafts supported by the gear case. Located beside the first gear case is a second gear case containing a second gear train coupled driving a stalk chopper drive shaft supported by, and projecting downwardly from, the second gear case. A main power shaft extends through a rear region of the first and second gear cases and carries a dual direction slip clutch providing overload protection for the first and second gear cases. When a stalk chopper is not used, the slip clutch is arranged for establishing overload protection for an adjacent second row unit gear case.

  • Patent number: 7798242
Abstract: A shift interlock mechanism for automatically shifting a sod cutter into a low gear when a cutting blade is lowered into the ground and automatically raising the cutting blade when the sod cutter is shifted into a high gear. The mechanism may include a cutting blade lever. The cutting blade lever may include a cam member which engages the shift lever creating cam action when the cutting blade handle is raised to the up position. When the cutting blade lever is moved to lower the cutting blade, the cam member moves the shift lever into a low gear. When the cutting blade handle is in the up position and the cutting blade has been lowered, the shift lever will oppose the cam member and create an opposite cam action, thereby raising the blade, when the shifter is moved into a high gear.

  • Publication number: 20090223191
Abstract: The mechanical interlock prevents inadvertent engagement of a control member. Rotation of the mechanical interlock about an interlock axis from a locked position to an engagement position allows the control member to rotate about a control axis. The mechanical interlock includes an interlock bracket that defines a guide path having locking and actuating segments that intersect at an acute angle, and a guide member that engages the guide path. One of the interlock bracket or the guide member is pivotally coupled to the control member about the interlock axis and the other is coupled to a handle. The guide path and the guide member are selectively positionable between a locked position where the guide member is proximate the locking segment, an engaged position where the guide member is proximate the intersection, and an actuated position where the guide member is proximate the actuating segment.

  • Patent number: 7337598
Abstract: A mowing machine having a lock mechanism for locking the engagement of a clutch mechanism is disclosed. By a two-motion control operation of operating a clutch lever and then operating a lock lever of a lock mechanism, a locking state of the lock mechanism is released. • Patent number: 6718746
Abstract: A drive arrangement for selectively repositioning a discharge spout of an agricultural harvesting machine by rotating it about a substantially vertical axis includes a drive motor coupled to a driveline incorporating a slip clutch operable for interrupting power flow to the spout in response to the driving torque exceeding a predetermined threshold value so as to prevent damage to the spout and/or drive motor when the spout impacts or is driven against an obstacle. The overload clutch is constructed so as to resist spout movement after the clutch has interrupted the flow of power through the driveline and to automatically reestablish power flow once the cause for the overload no longer exists.
