  • Patent number: 11277968
Abstract: A stalk roll assembly for a corn harvester includes a first stalk roll having a first elongate cylinder and rotates about a first axis, and a second stalk roll has a second elongate cylinder rotates about a second axis. A third stalk roll has a third elongate cylinder, is positioned above the first stalk roll and rotates about a third axis, and a fourth stalk roll has a fourth elongate cylinder, is positioned above the second stalk roll and rotates about a fourth axis. A first plate is positioned between the first stalk roll and the third stalk roll, and a second plate is positioned between the second stalk roll and the fourth stalk roll. The first and second stalk rolls are spaced apart to separate corn ears from corn stalks.

  • Patent number: 8181434
Abstract: A corn head includes plural pairs of first and second laterally spaced rotating stalk rolls each having outer fluting and plural outer arrays of spaced knife members extending along the length of each stalk roll. Corn stalks are directed by rotating pick-up cones each disposed forward of a respective stalk roll into the space between adjacent stalk rolls, where the stalks are directed downwardly through the inter-roll space and are reduced by the cutting action of the rotating knives. Each pick-up cone and its associated stalk roll rotate in opposite directions as do the two stalk rolls. Disposed above and extending along the length of the stalk rolls are a closely spaced upper auger and stripper plate which remove an ear of corn from the stalk and direct the ear to the combine for further processing. A skid plate is disposed adjacent a lower, forward portion of each pick-up cone.

  • Publication number: 20020014064
Abstract: An intake and plucking arrangement comprises a rotatable intake device that grasps a standing plant and directs it to a plucking gap. The plucking gap is located above parallel first and second stalk rolls that pull the stalk of the plant downwardly so that the plucking gap can separate the useful parts of the plant from the stalk. The upstream end of the first stalk roll is provided with a lower screw conveyor. A conveyor element is drivingly connected to the screw conveyor. The conveying element comprises an upper screw conveyor that is located above the lower screw conveyor. Both screw conveyors are located upstream from and above the inlet end of the plucking slot. The conveying element working in conjunction with the rotatable intake device direct standing plants into the plucking slot.

  • Patent number: 6341481
Abstract: A harvesting machine, such as a combine, has a number of laterally equispaced, side by side, rotatable augers (14) extending in a forward direction, each auger having a rotatable auger shaft (16) which is included upwardly towards the rear and an auger flight on the shaft. Inclined troughs (32) are located beneath each auger (14) with the auger flight (18) being rotatable in the trough. Inclined slots (28) are also provided which extend rearwardly from respective slot entrances at the forward end of the header, the slots being sufficiently wide to allow passage of stalks of material to be harvested but too narrow to allow passage of crop ears or other material to be collected so that the crop ears or other material to be collected can be stripped from the stalks by the action of the slots during forward movement of the header. The augers are rotated by a drive.

  • Patent number: 6047532
Abstract: A crop harvesting header includes a wide cutter for severing crop across a relatively large cutting width, and framework defining a discharge opening spaced rearwardly from the cutter. The discharge opening has a width that is less than the cutting width such that crop severed laterally outboard of the discharge opening by the cutter must be conveyed inwardly before passing through the opening. At least one laterally extending, rotatable auger is located between the cutter and discharge opening for converging severed crop centrally from the areas located laterally outboard of the discharge opening and to project the crop through the opening when rotated. The header includes an auger support for rotatably supporting the auger between its opposite ends on the header framework so that the auger is capable of spanning the long distance corresponding to the large cutting width defined by the sickle bar.

  • Patent number: 5875623
Abstract: A main frame of a row crop attachment adapted to be attached to a field traversing forage harvester having a crop inlet. An auger, mounted on the main frame generally transverse to the direction of travel of the forage harvester, comprises a tube and flighting mounted on the tube for engaging the upper portion of standing row crops as the forage harvester traverses the field. A transverse cutting assembly, mounted below the auger, has a cutting mechanism for cutting the lower portion of standing row crops. Also mounted below the auger are elements for engaging the lower portion of the stalks in cooperation with the auger flighting under conditions where the auger is rotated in a direction that urges the crop material downwardly and inwardly. After the crop is cut it is urged rearwardly by the auger toward a crop outlet in the attachment adjacent the inlet in the harvester on which the attachment is mounted.

  • Patent number: 4807645
Abstract: A husking roll section for use in combination with a second parallel husking roll section within a husking machine, includes a hollow core with an outside surface, and a husking sleeve affixed to and surrounding the outside surface of the core to form a husking surface. The sleeve includes at least one hardened sector comprising a rigid rib, and a resilient major portion which is formed from an elastic material and which is bonded to the rigid rib and core. The husking sleeve presents a plurality of helical lands and grooves. When the rigid rib is a metal rib which is affixed to the core outside surface, the elastic material which forms the resilient major portion is bonded to the rigid metal rib sides and to the core outside surface so that the rigid rib sides are completely covered by the elastic material, and the metal rib and the elastic material immediately adjacent thereto form the hardened sector.

  • Patent number: 4377062
Abstract: A snapper head for harvesting maize has gathering wheels and a gathering snout for gathering maize stalks of maize plants and for guiding them into a slot in the head. The slot is defined between a snapper plate and a snapper shoulder on the opposite side of the slot to the snapper plate for together snapping crop, that is ears to be harvested, from maize stalks guided into said slot. Beneath the slot there are snapper rolls for engaging stalks within said slot and drawing the stalks downwardly to draw crop against the snapper shoulder and snapper plate for separation from the maize stalks. A conveyor screw extends along an axis substantially parallel to, above, and to one side of said slot for conveying crop separated from maize stalks, away from the slot. The screw can also extend forwardly of the slot for gathering maize into the slot.
