  • Publication number: 20100287780
Abstract: A vegetation trimmer with a spool and hub assembly has a cutting filament wound around the spool. The free end of the filament extends through an aperture in the hub into the cutting plane. The spool and hub are rotated at a high rate to allow the filament to cut vegetation. The spool includes a plurality of arms which engage with arms on the hub. When the spool is acted upon, the arms on the spool disengage with the arms on the hub to permit relative rotation of the spool to the hub to feed additional filament into the cutting plane. An indexing feature is used to regulate the amount of additional cutting filament that is allowed to be fed into the cutting plane.

  • Publication number: 20090223065
Abstract: A trimmer head for use in a flexible line rotary trimmer including a housing adapted to be operatively connected to the trimmer to effect rotation of the head and a spool operatively connected to the housing for rotation therewith. The spool defines at least one inwardly extending line receptor channel, preferably formed by a plurality of inwardly tapered walls so as to be polygonal in cross-section. So configured, the channel walls will securely grip the cutting line upon the line being inserted in the channel and wound about the spool. To provide uniform winding of the line, a plurality of cam, cam abutment and sliding surfaces are operatively connected to the housing and spool such that when the spool is manually rotated relative to the housing in the drive direction, the spool is caused to reciprocate axially within the housing evenly distributing the line about the body of the spool.

  • Patent number: 6581363
Abstract: A mower deck cleaning device for a rotary mower for removing clippings from the inside of the mower blade housing. A tubular conduit is mounted on the mower so as to extend through the deck of the mower. A garden hose may be attached to the conduit to flow water through the conduit. A rotor mounted on the conduit receives the water from the hose and projects a rotating pattern of pressurized fluid for cleaning the inside of the housing.

  • Publication number: 20020170281
Abstract: The primary feature of the invention is a nozzle end which extends downward through a hole in the deck of a rotary mower and has a plurality of orifices, some of which are parallel to the deck and some are angled downward at an angle in a range of 1° to 45°. The orifices are radial from the axis of the nozzle end. The cleaning is done by supplying water to the orifices at household pressure while the mower is running at mowing speed. The nozzle having the nozzle end may be installed in the deck or manually held in place during use.

  • Patent number: 6256970
Abstract: A mobile lawn maintenance apparatus includes an implement mounting assembly for mounting an implement relative to the apparatus base which permits rotation of the implement about a horizontal axis and pivoting the implement about a vertical axis. An implement drive shaft, to which various implements may be interchangeably secured, is rotatably mounted in a bearing assembly which is secured to a distal end of the implement mounting assembly. The implement drive shaft is driven by a drive belt connected between an implement drive pulley on the implement drive shaft and a drive pulley mounted on a drive shaft of an engine mounted on the frame of the apparatus. The implement mounting assembly telescopes and is spring biased to urge to implement drive pulley away from the engine drive pulley to maintain constant tension on the drive belt during rotation of the implement attached to the implement mounting assembly.
