Patent number: 8888130Abstract: A riding lawn care vehicle may include a frame and a steering assembly. Wheels of the riding lawn care vehicle may be attachable to the frame. The steering assembly may include a steering wheel operably coupled to rear wheels of the riding lawn care vehicle via a cable system. The cable system may include a first cable portion, a second cable portion and a pulley assembly. The first and second cable portions may each contact a steering column pulley at respective first ends of the first and second cable portions. The steering column pulley may be configured to pull a corresponding one of the first cable portion or the second cable portion based on a direction of rotation of the steering wheel. The first and second cable portions may each be in operable communication with a steering disc at respective second ends of the first and second cable portions. The steering disc may provide translation of movement of the first cable portion and the second cable portion into corresponding movement of the rear wheels.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2011Date of Patent: November 18, 2014Assignee: Husqvarna ABInventor: Urban Stark

Patent number: 8725361Abstract: A guidance method and system automatically steers a guided vehicle which moves along a planned path between adjacent crop rows. The vehicle has a frame and steerable wheels. The method includes generating a left crop position signal with a left crop sensor on a left side of the vehicle, generating a right crop position signal with a right crop sensor on a right side of the vehicle, and generating a vehicle position signal with a vehicle position sensor unit. The method also includes generating a difference position signal by subtracting one of the left and right crop position signals from the other of the left and right crop position signals, and converting the difference position signal into a time-varying lateral offset signal. The method also includes offsetting the planned path by the time-varying lateral offset signal, and guiding the vehicle as a function of the offset planned path.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2012Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventor: Carroll C. Patent number: 8220233Abstract: An agricultural machine including a carrying vehicle and plural work units configured to cut a standing product. The agricultural machine includes four steering and driving wheels that support the carrying vehicle, at least two front work units arranged, during work and viewed in a direction of forward travel of the carrying vehicle, at the front of the carrying vehicle, and at least two lateral work units arranged, during work, on either side of a work area of the front work units. The front work units and the lateral work units can be moved with respect to the carrying vehicle and can pivot in mutually opposite directions with respect to each other, to occupy a transport position or a work position. In the work position, a work area of a first front work unit partially overlaps a work area of a second front work unit.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2011Date of Patent: July 17, 2012Assignee: Kuhn S.A.Inventors: Jeannot Hironimus, Horst Neuerburg, Olivier Stutzmann, David Bonnin

Patent number: 6510677Abstract: An adjustable mowing and trimming apparatus is presented having a wheel adjust mechanism and trimming assembly. The apparatus includes a housing to which at least two wheels are rotatably mounted at opposite sides of the wheel adjust mechanism. The wheel adjust mechanism includes a pair of wheel brackets having a C-shaped configuration, each of which pivotally attaches to the housing and is provided with an outwardly extending axle for supporting a wheel. A tie rod attaches at respective opposite ends to the wheel brackets. A slotted bracket is attached to the tie rod and movable in response to a movable arm to reorient the wheels on either side of the housing. The trimming assembly is mounted at a front portion of the housing and includes a spindle assembly rotatably attached to a shaft, which is fixedly attached to the housing.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 2000Date of Patent: January 28, 2003Assignee: MTD Products IncInventors: Mathieu J. Publication number: 20010013217Abstract: An improved lawn mower includes a chassis assembly having one or more drive wheels, a ground-following cutter deck assembly attached to the chassis, and rolling means attached to the cutter deck, wherein the chassis and the cutter deck are arranged such that the rolling means and the drive wheels support the chassis for movement over a surface. The ground-following cutter deck thereby reacts to the ground contours independent of the reactions of the chassis, and the combined weight of the chassis and cutter deck keep the cutter deck from bouncing, thus, the ground-following cutter deck follows the ground contours evenly.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2001Publication date: August 16, 2001Inventor: Joseph Ferris

Patent number: 6233912Abstract: An implement deck slidingly mounted on a wheeled axle so that the deck can be moved laterally from side-to-side to extend out beyond the track of the wheels. A T-shaped handle is rotatively mounted on the implement deck and is connected through a rocker arm and linkage to the wheeled axle. When the T-handle is rotated in one direction, the deck will slide to one end of the axle and when the handle is rotated in the opposite direction, the deck will slide to the opposite end of the axle. When the deck is disposed in the center of the axle, a locking pin can be inserted to prevent any relative movement between the wheeled axle and the deck.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1999Date of Patent: May 22, 2001Inventor: Furney M. Patent number: 6179315Abstract: A steerable machinery trailer (1) has a chassis (2, 33, 35, 36) intermediate a pivotal towing attachment (26, 29, 30, 46) and trailer wheels (3) proximate a rear portion of the chassis. The trailer wheels have pivotal attachment to the trailer and are pivotal for steering with a steering shaft (4) that is length-controllable intermediate rigid positioning on the chassis and a steering arm (6) attached to a steering rod (7) that is connected to a pivotal attachment of the trailer wheels to the chassis. Separately and optionally from being pivotal on the pivotal towing attachment by wheel-following of the trailer wheels, the chassis is pivotal on the pivotal towing attachment with a positioning shaft (8) that is length controllable intermediate rigid positioning on the chassis and a rigid lateral attachment (5, 9) to the towing vehicle. Length changes of the steering shaft steer the trailer wheels to guide the rear portion of the trailer from-side-to-side for selective turn-positioning of the trailer wheels.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1998Date of Patent: January 30, 2001Inventor: Cale N.
