  • Patent number: 7325512
Abstract: A new method for collecting and dispensing cut crops. The feed crop is cut as in the prior art. A vacuum is used to lift the dried feed crop off the ground and blow it into a mobile storage container. The feed is allowed to compress under its own weight within the storage container. Three or more harvesting cycles can be used to completely fill the storage container. Multiple containers can be used to harvest large feed crops. The containers are then parked in a convenient location awaiting winter. When winter arrives, the feed containers are towed to the feeding area. Doors in the lower portion of the containers are opened to allow access to the feed.

  • Patent number: 6263649
Abstract: The leaf gathering and compressing machine has an main frame supported on wheels and adapted to be attached to the drawbar of a tractor. A subframe is pivotally attached to the main frame. A leaf pickup assembly is mounted on the front of the subframe. A leaf feeder assembly with a plurality of augers journaled on the subframe receives leaves from the leaf pickup assembly and conveys the leaves to the rear. A compression auger in an auger housing, mounted on the subframe, receives leaves from the feeder assembly, compresses the leaves and conveys the leaves to the rear. The auger housing has a minimum diameter that is at least two inches larger than the compression auger diameter in a generally vertical transverse plane. A holding container mounted on the main frame communicates with a compression auger discharge.

  • Patent number: 6247510
Abstract: The transfer device of an agricultural harvester, in particular a self-propelled forage harvester, is controlled to avoid crop loss and improve operating efficiency. The harvested crop is transferred from the agricultural harvester to a transport receptacle via an upper discharge chute. Apparatus controls the pivoting and vertical movement of the transfer device while the crop stream is spewed in a manner to avoid crop loss and improve the filling capacity during the transfer. The angle between the pivotable transfer device and the longitudinal direction of the agricultural harvester is calculated from the quantity of the correcting value to predetermine the direction of travel of the agricultural harvester. During travel, the apparatus is effective even during a curved path of travel.

  • Patent number: 6234072
Abstract: A grain husk cracking plate for attaching to a chopping cylinder housing of a harvester in proximity to a shear bar to crack husks of grain moving through the harvester. The grain husk cracking plate includes a base plate adapted for directing grain through the chopping cylinder housing of the harvester. A pair of side mounting members are mounted to side edges of a base plate. A plurality of blade members are mounted on the top surface of the base plate. Each of the side mounting members has a pair of mounting structures, and each mounting structure comprises a mounting aperture extending through the side mounting member adjacent to the leading edge or the trailing edge of the base plate. Each of the mounting structures may include a threaded fastener coupled to each of the side mounting members. The plurality of blade members may be positioned on a rear portion of the base plate.

  • Patent number: 6226970
Abstract: A bagging assembly for a riding lawn mower including a mower deck having a grass discharge conduit extending upwardly and rearwardly therefrom. The bagging assembly includes a support for supporting a pair of grass collection bags thereon together with a hood which is selectively movably disposed above the bags. The support structure includes an elongated, horizontally disposed cross-beam having a bag-supporting frame secured thereto which extends rearwardly therefrom. A flexible seal is secured to the cross-beam along the length thereof and is also secured to the lower forward end of the hood to prevent grass clippings from falling downwardly and forwardly through the space normally found between the lower forward end of the hood and the support structure. When the hood is in its closed position, the flexible seal engages the upper forward portions of the grass collection bags to maintain the bags in position.

  • Patent number: 6226967
Abstract: For conveyance of mowed material a conveyor device comprised of a conveyor belt (26) is employed between the mowing mechanism and collection container. The conveyor belt (26) is comprised of two equally paced oppositely driven endless conveyor belts, which run about drive (40, 44) and guide rollers (36, 46), which are mounted on horizontal axles (41, 47, 53). The conveyor belts (32, 34) exhibit two conveyor segments (56, 58) which are parallel and lie opposite to each other, which in the absence of mowed material to be conveyed (22) lie against each other, which receive mowed material (22) from the mowing mechanism (14) and of which the spacing with respect to each other can be increased by the mowed material (22) and of which their respective separation is increased by the spreading force of the mowed material (22) against the spring force (54).

  • Patent number: 6208259
Abstract: An apparatus for indicating the level of harvested cotton in a basket assembly of a cotton harvester is provided. The apparatus includes a transducer, a control circuit and an indicator. The transducer is coupled to a motor of a compaction member of a compaction assembly of the cotton harvester and measures the pressure exerted by the harvested cotton upon the compaction member. The transducer generates a pressure signal that is received by the control circuit. The control circuit generates a basket level indication signal a short time after the pressure signal indicates a predetermined pressure has been measured. Alternatively, the control circuit generates the basket level indication signal when the pressure signal indicates the basket assembly is approximately full. An indicator, such as a lamp or buzzer, receives the basket level indication signal and provides an indication to the operator of the level of harvested cotton in the basket.

  • Patent number: 6176779
Abstract: A compactor for a cotton harvester basket includes an automatic compactor auger control system having a pair of optical sensors mounted in the basket utilizing light blockage to detect a preselected level of cotton in the basket. When the preselected cotton level is reached, a full basket signal is sent to a microprocessor based controller which activates the compactor augers if certain interlock conditions are satisfied. The microprocessor control maintains the augers in operation until the cotton is compacted below the preselected level so the light signal is no longer blocked. An adjustable timer assures compactor operation for a minimum period of time to prevent short, intermittent periods of operation when the basket is filling and permits timing adjustments to accommodate varying cotton conditions.
