Abstract: An operation device of a walker operated mower is disclosed. When a mowing lever is set to the "connection" side to start a mowing member and a little bit later, when a running operation lever is set to the "connection" side substantially simultaneously while keeping the lever position, a support member which is integral with the running operation lever pushes the back of an engagement member and a rocking tip of the engagement member strikes a projection provided to the mowing operation lever and prevents the return of the mowing operation lever while keeping contact with the projection. Accordingly, even if the mowing operation member is kept in the "connection" position, the moving operation lever retain the "connection" state. Therefore, the running operation lever can be kept in the "connection" position by one of the hands and the other portions can be operated freely by the other hand.

Abstract: Auxiliary power apparatus having particular application to motor-driven lawn and garden devices is described. The auxiliary power apparatus operates an auxiliary load from a motor power source on, for example, the lawn and garden equipment in question. A collar member is fixedly attached to the drive shaft of a rotary power source. A flexible drive shaft including a flexible driven shaft and a flexible sleeve arranged about the driven shaft is connected at one end to the mechanical load by means of a driven shaft. A second end of the driven shaft ends in a shaft extension member. The collar member is formed to receive the shaft extension member and a second locking member is arranged at the second end of the flexible sleeve for releasable engagement with a locking member on the collar. Thus, the flexible drive shaft is releasably connected to the collar which in turn is connected to the drive shaft of the power source.

  • Patent number: 4642976
Abstract: This specification discloses a cutting head and mounting assembly for adjustably supporting the cutting head on a mower. The mounting assembly for the head permits easy adjustment of the height of the head above the ground, its horizontal angle with respect to the frame of the mower, and the inclination of the head from a horizontal to a vertical orientation or any angle of inclination therebetween. At the end of the head opposite its cutting flail members, there is a quick detach joint which allows, either an electric motor to be mounted and energized through a switch by electrical power available aboard the mower, or alternatively allows a cable drive to be mounted which drives the head from a friction drive mechanism taking power from the mower engine shaft, the friction drive being selectively engageable by means of a Bowden control cable. A guard to deflect cuttings away from the operation is mounted on the cutting head.

  • Patent number: 4559768
Abstract: A power driven lawnmower of the walk-behind type has its ground support wheels all disposed behind the blade travel path and to the side walls of the lawnmower which straddle the blade, to enable the blade to be maneuvered closer to upstanding objects such as walls. The lawnmower has a gasoline powered engine and an electric generator which is driven by the engine. The generator includes an electrical outlet socket capable of receiving a multi-pronged plug of an external electrically driven implement. Vertical height adjustment of the blade is achieved by an extension of the blade shaft which extends upwardly through a sleeve. Holes in the sleeve and shaft extension are suitably aligned and affixed to provide for the height adjustment. During such adjustment, the lawnmower may be positioned atop a platform which carries a slot for receiving the blade to prevent rotation of the blade as the shaft nut is unscrewed.
