Abstract: A shield apparatus is mounted on the header of an agricultural implement which includes a rotatable collecting member to direct collected material rearwardly towards a rear discharge opening. The shield apparatus includes a panel member and a mounting bracket assembly which supports the panel member above the rear discharge opening of the header spanning in a lateral direction transversely to the forward working direction such that the panel member extends from a rear edge rearward of the collecting member to a front edge which is spaced forward and upwardly in relation to the rear edge. The shield apparatus ensures that material thrown upwardly above the rear of the header frame is redirected downwardly into the rear discharge opening of the header for collection by the implement in the usual manner. The shield apparatus does not interfere with the visibility of the operator when the panel member is clear.

Abstract: A spindle assembly for use with a rotating member is provided. The spindle assembly may include a flexible shield or seal that, in one embodiment, is radially and axially secured to one end of a spindle shaft of the assembly. The seal may be spaced-apart from one or more bearings rotationally supporting the shaft. As a result, a space between the seal and the bearing may be provided that allows dissipation of energy from a fluid (e.g., pressurized stream of cleaning fluid) that is forced past the seal. Moreover, spindle assembly constructions in accordance with embodiments of the instant invention may permit increased bearing spacing, potentially reducing bearing load and increasing bearing life.

Abstract: A mower comprising an edge guide located adjacent an outer surface of a side wall and at least partially surrounding an opening. The edge guide comprises an inlet and is arranged to guide vegetation towards the opening. The edge guide defines a channel having at least one direction change between the inlet and the opening such that there is no line of sight between the inlet and the cutter element. By providing an edge guide having a convoluted path or channel, an opening in the side wall of the cutter housing can extend vertically up to the plane of the cutter element while still providing a radially-enclosed cutter element as required by safety regulations. Therefore, edge-located vegetation can be fed to the cutter in a more upright configuration for improved cutting.

Abstract: A mower has a frame that supports a rotary cutting deck. The frame includes a pair of side rails that each extend from a front end in advance of the cutting deck to a rear end substantially behind the cutting deck. The front ends of the side rails support a pair of front caster wheels. The rear ends of the side rails have a raised, upwardly extending arch at which a hydraulic pump/motor assembly is mounted. The pump/motor assembly has an L-shaped configuration with the motor being located towards the bottom of the arch and outboard of the side rail and with the pump extending upwardly and inwardly from the motor to be located inboard of the side rail and within the vertical profile of the arch. The hydraulic motors drive a pair of rear drive wheels to propel the frame over the ground. A cross frame extends between the motors in the pump/motor assemblies to join the assemblies together. The deck is propelled from the frame by a plurality of struts extending between the cross frame and the deck.
