Abstract: An apparatus and method for helically installing a vortex-induced vibration (VIV) suppression fin about a tubular. The apparatus may include an outer ring member dimensioned to encircle an underlying tubular and an inner ring member positioned concentrically inward from the outer ring member. The inner ring member is configured to rotate with respect to at least one of the outer ring member or the tubular as the outer ring member moves along the tubular. The apparatus may further include a fin guide configured to receive a fin and helically position the fin along the tubular as the inner ring member rotates. A method of installing a vortex-induced vibration (VIV) suppression fin about a tubular may include removably attaching a VIV suppression fin to an installation member. The installation member may be positioned along a tubular and moved about the tubular to helically position the fin around the tubular.

  • Patent number: 7913483
Abstract: On each draft element of a ring spinning frame, two pieces of short-staple roving from the roving bobbin enter into the draft mechanism to be drafted though a guide funnel in parallel, two pieces of filament are fed from the back of the front roller, and combine with two pieces of roving at front jaw respectively. The drafted two pieces of roving and filament are output from the front jaw and enter into the twisting triangle area to be twisted, and then are wound onto a yarn bobbin to produce yarn. Based on the relative position of the two pieces of roving and two pieces of filament, different yarns can be produced. Furthermore, multi-component yarn, such as core structure, wrapped structure, strand-like structure, can be produced on a ring spinning frame. The structure of yarn can be precisely determined. Special fiber yarn can be produced on traditional spinning frame.

Abstract: An apparatus for wrapping hair strands with string or artificial hair is disclosed. The apparatus has a shell that defines an axle having an opening. The axle rotatably supports a drive wheel, a spool of string and a guide wheel. The drive wheel engages the guide wheel. The string passes from the spool past the guide wheel, which has circumferential notches to engage and play out the string. In practice, the user passes a hair strand through the opening in the axle, fastens the string to a hair strand, energizes the apparatus, and moves it along the length of the hair strand as the string is wrapped about the strand. The apparatus is preferably powered by a small DC motor.

First and second locking devices respectively mount the first and second receiving devices in the first and second suspension devices, respectively, such that in a release position of a respective locking device, a respective receiving device is completely displaceable in an axial direction for installing or removing the supply member, and such that in a lock position of the respective locking device, the respective receiving device is secured against detachment during operation of the supply member.

  • Patent number: 5632136
Abstract: The invention is directed to an apparatus for winding resistance wire about a filament core. The apparatus includes a plurality of wire supply reels supported by a frame, each wire supply reel having an axial bore extending therethrough and carrying a length of the wire. A filament core is threaded through each of the wire supply reels with a mechanism for directing the filament core between the wire supply reels. The filament core extends through a winding station operable to rotate one of the wire supply reels about the filament core so that wire carried on the wire supply reel is wound about the filament core. The wire supply reel is formed from a cylinder having a flange at each end. The cylinder and flanges together have a continuous slot in communication with the axial bore to permit the threaded filament to exit from the axial bore when the wire supply is exhausted.

  • Patent number: 5588290
Abstract: A machine wraps pipe as it travels along a substantially linear path between a feeder reel from which the pipe is unwound to a take up reel onto which the pipe is rewound. A pipe wrap assembly for wrapping one or more layers of tape about the pipe is rotatably mounted on a carriage. A mechanism mounted on the carriage and engaged with the pipe drives the carriage along the pipe as the pipe travels from reel-to-reel. As the carriage is driven along the pipe, the tape is spirally applied to the pipe by the pipe wrap assembly. The carriage is supported for lateral horizontal movement in response to variation in the unwind and rewind points on the feeder and take-up reels. The carriage is also supported for longitudinal horizontal movement in response to changes in the rate of travel of the pipe relative to the rate of travel of the carriage.

  • Patent number: 5346149
Abstract: A pipe wrap machine capable of dispensing one or more continuous strips of pipe wrapping material in a constant spiral path around a pipe includes mechanisms for simultaneously setting and calibrating the pitch of the spiral path of the machine. The shafts of three longitudinally aligned pairs of wheels are connected so that each pair of wheels can be simultaneously rotated to a selected angular alignment in relation to the pipe circumference. Each connecting rod is provided with an indicator and scale, so that each pair of wheels may be easily rotated to a precalibrated position to provide the desired amount of pitch. Each of the wheel shafts extends through a collar mounted on the machine frame. A set screw through each collar permits locking of its shaft at selected lengths of extension through the collar.
